Is it the best combo EVER? Whether I'm listening to Adrian Smith, Slash, Zakk Wylde, Billy Gibbons, Ace Frehley, Peter Frampton, or even Justin Hawkins, this setup just sounds the best of anything ever I think. Do you agree?

Re: Les Paul through Marshall

Superstrat style guitar or V into a Bogner Ecstasy.

Re: Les Paul through Marshall

i personally do not care for either, at all

i like fenders through fenders

or fenders through peaveys

dual rectos are good with the right tubes & speakers

Re: Les Paul through Marshall

nope, can't say it's the best since i'm not a big marshall fan...it works for others, just doesn't work for me. although zakk has some monsterous tone!

Re: Les Paul through Marshall

Nope....

Get ahold of a good vintage Les Paul, plug it into a Fender Deluxe Reverb and crank it up. Pure Duane....pure Duane!

Re: Les Paul through Marshall

Works for me, but as you can see, it's not everyone's cup of tea. It's all very subjective. Use what you like.

Re: Les Paul through Marshall

It's the basic tone that I'm looking for, that's for sure....but I'm a pretty simple guy when it comes to setups. The best sounding Marshall that I have heard so far is GJ's Silver Jubilee. I'll have one someday.

The only other thing I'm gassing for is a Two Rock Emerald 50, or Emerald Pro.

Re: Les Paul through Marshall

I personally think super strat tones are ****ty. Sorry guys :) . Charvels, Jacksons, ESPs..... just too bland and earsplitting for me. When Adrian started playing superstrats in the mid 80's his tone went down the tubes. When he came to Fender and Gibson in 2000 his tone was salvaged. Put the same pickups in Kirk Hammett's guitar in Zakk Wylde's guitar and the tone is improved x100. Also factor in that Zakk is using Marshalls, not Mesas. To torture POWs the US should take ESPs with EMG 85's and do pinch harmonics with scooped mesa boogie amps at full gain.

Re: Les Paul through Marshall

It's nice, but vanilla... You like vanilla? Everyone pretty much likes vanilla.

... Strats into any good tube amp-- passive pickups and any ol' speaker cabinet that suits your tastes-- guaranteed you'll find your own sound.

Oh-- and a Flying V to shake things up!

Re: Les Paul through Marshall

EMG's?!?!

Are you nuts?!

:smack:

The perfect combo is:
-Gibson LP with a Custom Custom\59 Combo
-Tubescreamer
-JCM800 2203 83'

Now were talkin'!

:)

Hey man, according to your signature, you own a "super strat", rigth? :yell:

Re: Les Paul through Marshall

JFET based boosts > Tubescreamers

Superstrat, JFET boost, Rack preamp and power amp

I win.

Re: Les Paul through Marshall

Les Pauls, vintage Marshalls, Strats & teles, Blackface Fender amps.. I like them all.. but the Les Paul Marshall combo is definitely my home setup these days.

Re: Les Paul through Marshall

So far, the best tones I've ever heard are...

my LP Goldtop w/overwound Custom 5 into Bogner Ecstacy. LP Metal

57 Reissue Black Beauty Custom w/C-5 into Marshall Jubilee LP Rock

Les Paul Std. w/50th Anniversary Seth Lovers into Matchless Chieftain. LP Blues

Fender alder/rosewood strat w/Chubtone 63's, Klon Centaur, Matchless Chieftain
Strat Blues

Telecaster, Klon Centaur OD, into Fender Bassman LTD. 4-10 Tele country/blues

I can't decide, because they all sound tonally spectacular.
