Leslie West's (king of tone) Pickups?

Re: Leslie West's (king of tone) Pickups?

I remember reading somewhere in an ancient magazine (fwiw), that the Dimarizo Megadrive was designed to get the Leslie West tone. Leslie has a great tone and he is a great and underrated player!

If the pickup that it is his axe is in fact like a custom/59 hybrid, you can make your own. BachtoRock also makes them and sells them from time to time. Do a search, there are a lot of threads on the custom/59 hybrids.

BTW Zerb, the link you provided doesn't work.

I talked to Steve at DiMarzio about Leslie one time and he said that Leslie sounded pretty much the same regardless of what he was playing. I think it is in his picking technique. He doesn't use a neck pickup because that is where he picks and he is on the edge of popping out a harmonic most of the time. I love his Mountain LPJr. P-90 sound, but just using a Jr. doesn't get the tone. Other players use Jr.s and don't sound like Leslie.

Latest I've read is that Leslie has been working with Dean guitars, and we should see some models he helped design this year. Don't know where that leaves all his Roman models?
