less wattage?

I've got a bandmaster right now...it's too loud.

I play jazz and indie...I'm looking for a pretty versatile amp....not too trebley (not harsh) and not booming bass. I'd like it to be somewhat bright....kind of like the Bandmaster....

I like the Bandmaster a lot....maybe I should just get an attenuator? The Weber Mass?

Re: less wattage?

You'd probably be very happy with just about any of the lower-wattage Fender tube combos out there...I'd try a 59 Bassman reissue and some Hot Rod's and Blues Jr.s and all of that good stuff.

Or you could just keep it loud and be a jazz / indie guitarist who's not afraid to ROCK!

Or a 30-watt Orange...AD30 or Rocker 30. Won't be much quieter but it will break up a lot sooner.

Re: less wattage?

a Bandmaster is only about 35 watts or so...which Bandmaster do you have?

Even if you were to go to something like a Deluxe it's not gonna be that much less volume to be honest...

An attenuator will help but it's not gonna make a 35 watt amp be a bedroom piece...

Re: less wattage?

I have a 1964...which IIRC is the 63 circuit still.

I'd love to just keep the amp as is. - I just don't want to hurt my hearing...I'm in a pretty small space....I don't turn it up much past three. So I guess it's not an issue. I could just get a 5 watter like the valve junior and keep the bandmaster around.

The truth is if you're running a Bandmaster on 3 and it's too loud you need a 5 watt or less...

What kind of cab are oyu using and what speaker(s) are in it??

Re: less wattage?

it's a marshall 4x12 with those 75 watt celestions.....g12h75s? something like that

Re: less wattage?

idk why I got that huge of a cab....I guess it was what was at hand at the time.

I know you can't really stack a head on a 1x12 cab but get your hands on a single 1x12 cab and drop in a good speaker (make sure to pay attention to your impedence) and you're volume will drop by a large margin.

Re: less wattage?

Keep in mind that you'd need something with 1/10th the wattage of your Bandmaster to get half the volume with all other things (cabs & speakers and such) being equal.

Re: less wattage?

yeah, which is why i reccomended the hrdlx with 6v6's

half the wattage, that's -3db

1/4th of the speakers, that's -6db

so it'll be about half as loud

Ha ha ha... I just can't imagine why a 35 watt amp with four 100dB/watt speakers in a big ass 4x12 cabinet would be too loud for a small room or house.:omg:

Re: less wattage?

haha, I realize that I was a bit of an idiot...It just never hit me that it was the speakers

would a 15" be too big?
