Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better

Re: Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better

If it would have been a MIJ this wouldn't have happened! :lmao: : popworm:

Seriously though.
Sorry to hear your having issues, Jeff.
Is the V neck similar to the Explorer Pro neck?
Thin D shape basically?
Hope that never happens to my Pro. :15:

Someone mentioned Hamer.
I believe this is the reason they switched to a 3 piece neck years ago.
I remember people complaining about their 1 piece necks twisting.

Re: Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better

Well, in most of the Western World, if you throw money at a problem, it gets solved!

However, If you say put in an order request or inquiry for a custom guitar to GIBSON, and your name isn't incredibly famous, the result will be a whistling wind.

What get's me is it's not like they ran a credit check before turning down my offer of business. No, it was worse...

THEY JUST NEVER REPLIED, on multiple occasions!

I love my one Gibson guitar, but because they won't speak to me, I'll probably never own another!

Re: Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better

This, is why i will NEVER own a gibson. I had a pickup problem with my current American Special HSS (the one getting surgery). Fender offered to send me a replacement set of pickups, prewired for S-1, gratis to stick into my pickguard. It was the problem, and it fixed them. Gibson has a lifetime warranty and under magnusson-moss of 1975, if the pickups aren't stock, but they are a user-serviceable part that were designed to replace the OEM parts, then they cannot affect the warranty for the rest of the guitar so long as it isn't the pickups that are causing it. (And i highly doubt that pickups can bend necks.)

Try to speak to a supervisor, or if all else fails, see if you can find the email addresses to a higher-up in PR or in QA, or if you're really lucky, Henry J himself. Just remember to be professional, articulate, and keep your emotions in check.

List it on Craigslist with a throwaway phone number, meet them at Starbucks, and dump it!

nah, J/K.....but maybe not.

Re: Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better

I bet that's just 'cause they don't want to go into the trouble of removing your pickups from your guitar and, god forbid, actually going into the trouble of installing them into the replacement one.

And yeah, I'm both joking AND being serious at the same time.

Re: Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better

i can lend you a 500T out of my V for as long as you need it, but i gave the 490R away. They are pretty cheap on ebay.

Re: Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better

It's pretty standard to only accept warranty repairs on unmodified equipment.

You have to understand that Gibson doesn't build airplanes. They operate under a policy to have a certain number of warranty returns, some threshold carefully designed to reach an expensives minimum between the costs of coming up with good guitars (hire no morons, train them properly, reject bad guitars in QA, all of which is very expensive) and the cost of doing returns.

Commonly in a business like guitars they operate under a 20% return threshold, since nobody gets hurt and stranded on a street corner if the thing breaks.

Keep in mind that many faulty guitars are never returned for a variety of reasons such as non-playing buyers, non-sold guitars, guitars into black sales channels with no wwarranty etc.

Like it or not, but that's what it is: voluntarily accepting a certain number of returns is the profitable thing to do for a company like Gibson, and we morons sure don't stop buying them. It is also a competitive advantage compared to Asian makers which have a higher cost associated with returns (a major reason why they have more consistent guitars coming into the U.S. in the first place).

Anyway, to go back to the original topic, whatever their cost of returns is, it scales down linearly with the percentage of rejected returns. And it is for sure legal to reject warranty claims on modified gear.

Re: Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better

I would think the chances of just replacing are high, and they dont want to spend extra money on swapping your pickups for you, only to have you complain that you had them wired a different way. Get a broken set from somebody and ship them back in it. Dont even wire them up, who cares. Maybe you get a new one with new pickups and they throw the bad one in the garbage.

Re: Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better

Less quality + less service + higher prices.

And sometimes I ask myself why I am not in line to buy one....

+100

THE LAST 2 NEW GIBBYS I BOUGHT WERE JUNK!!!!

THATS WHY I MADE THE SWITCH TO HERITAGE! IF I HAVE A PROBLEM, THEY HELP ME. PLUS THE QUALITY CONTROL IS A LOT BETTER....5 GUITARS A DAY vs 500...WHO DO YOU THINK IS LOOKING OUT FOR QUALITY?

SORRY ABOUT YOUR v I LOVE VS...I WISH HERITAGE WOULD DO ONE!! I HOPE EVERYTHING WORKS OUT FOR YA!!!:)

Re: Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better

wow, I've never seen a twist in the neck, I didnt know that was plausible without the fretboard lifting off the neck?

Twisted necks do happen but it is a fairly rare occurance. It is a lot like neck relief. It doesn't have to move far to be noticeable.

Re: Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better

keep us posted!! That stinks! Id offer you my 500t, but for some reason, it quit working....

better yet, I send you mine and you tell em the pup isnt working either and get me a new one!!!

Re: Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better

Man Idk why someone would want to swap out the Gibson pups anyways, I've always loved the sound of their pickups.

If it wasn't for the 490/498 and 500/496R sets, I'd agree with you. I really like Classic '57s (in fact, I have a set in one of my PRS McCarty guitars...haha) and I've heard some Burstbuckers that were nice not to mention their P90s are good.

That sucks Jeff, good luck with the repair process and I hope Gibson takes care of you.

Re: Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better

Stratsandaks is helping me out! yay! Thanks again Bro! :D

I don't doubt Gibson will take care of the warranty issue. The last time I had a complaint/problem, the VP got involved- and I wasn't making a stink at all.

The thing that bugs me is this-If the guitar is replaced, will I get one that sounds as good back? or has as decent fretwork? That's got me nervous. (Maybe I'll ask to have it Plekk'ed for all my trouble ;) )

Re: Lets have a Gibson bash to make me feel better
