Let's hear it for Eminence...

Fortunately for me, pouring rain can't stop UPS either.

My new Eminence Wizard arrived today, and after an anxious few minutes of fumbling with screws and trying not to beat up the old Governor, a new Wizard went in with another old Governor. I fired up the new combination in the 2x12, and what a difference a speaker makes. It's not broken in yet, but it still sounds good.

The first impression I got is what a fullness was available in the cabinet now. The bass REALLY filled out, and the brightness of the Governor pair really was tamed. The mids were much more manageable now, and the top end was much less harsh. Cleans were nice, but overdrive was really brilliant. I feel like there's some combination of hi-fi and smoothness while still allowing raunch through. I'm really surprised that one speaker made such a difference.

Admittedly, this is still the honeymoon period, and the speaker has not yet broken in, but it's a welcome change. The most notable difference is that the punchiness of the mids isn't the only thing I'm hearing.

Now back to your regularly scheduled discussions.

Guess what, my regularly scheduled discussion involves searching for new musical interests on YouTube.

Who made the 2x12 cabinet? I've been hearing so many good things about pairing speakers I'm about to start GASing for something I really don't need.

It sounds like your wife ultimately hit a bullseye for Father's Day ..... enjoy!

Re: Let's hear it for Eminence...

The cabinet is a LopoLine. I don't have much experience with cabs, so I can't give much of a compare-and-contrast, but I like it. I used to have a Randall 2x12 combo, and that was much thinner sounding, even when it was loaded with the Governors. The reason I went for LopoLine is because I didn't really know whether I wanted open or closed back, and to have it both ways cost me about twenty bucks more than either open or closed alone. I have heard great things about Mesa Recto cabs and Avatar vintage cabs also, but I think the number and model of speakers are the biggest contributor to the sound of a given cab.

The combination of Wizard and Governor is real hard to beat at any price. Yes, it is a great duo for rock and blues, but it also works well for a jazz player.
Good Luck

For some odd reason this thread makes me want to mix strawberry and peach ice creams.

I have nothing but great things to say about Emincne. Thier warranty and customer service is bar none, the best!
Thier speakers sound great and they have a great selection.
I have put their warrnty to the test at least 3 times and it has never failed.
Most of the speakers sound excellent like the Wizard ,Governor, and Pvt. Jack, and some are outstanding like the Red fang.
Others are very good speakers like the tonker and most of the patriot series.
In my eyes they will always be the poor mans Celstion- not quite as good sounding, but hey, they are great speakers nontheless and I'm a big fan of Eminence speakers!

I LOVE the Cannabis Rex. It was my favorite for many years until Celestion released the G12-65 Heritage reissue last year.

I'm a huge Eminence fan as well and had a similar experience (kinda sorta w the patriot series)...I was running a Red, White & Blues in a LOPO 1x12 closed and it sounded great but a little too "scooped" for me...I added another LOPO w/ a Texas Heat and it really balanced it out!

+1 on all the Emi customer service props thy're really good about answering questions....those Lopo cabs are really built well too!

Congrats on finding your sound! ENJOY!
