Lets see your Fat Strat!

Re: Lets see your Fat Strat!

Since the original post mentions nothing about "Fender", and mine fulfills all of the other criteria...

Here's mine....

...unfortunately I destroyed it when my band broke up a few weeks back. I saved all the parts and I'll get her up and running again shortly, I need to find a new body. Custom in the bridge with Peavey singles. The Peavey ceramic single sound great and can hang with the Custom.

Moral of this story: Don't date the hot chick singer!!!

Re: Lets see your Fat Strat!

well since we all get to play here is mine!

Warmoth parts.. I did all the finishing & assembly. pictured it has an stk-2 in the neck and an sh-14 in the bridge.. she's now sporting a 1/4 lb. strat in the neck and a distortion in the bridge.

I love these gtr porn threads!

Re: Lets see your Fat Strat!

Kamanda, how old is that MIM Strat? The maple neck has aged really nicely there!

Metlking, which one of those bad boys is your favourite?

1996! And thank you! I think alot of it has to do wit hthe origional owner lived in a smoke filled house, the knobs are yellowed as well! When the new pickguard went on you could really tell the difference in colour from the knobs and pup covers.

And yeah Metlking, one hell of a collection.

i did polish the living $#!t out of it so it looks a little thicker than it really is but i did go a little overboard as it was my first attempt. No such thing as "too glossy" for me though i like my stuff shiny ... you oughtta see my car! hahahah!

Re: Lets see your Fat Strat!

That is a great looking guitar pixilpusher! The 3M polishing compounds and a good power polisher can really make em shiney. Is that what you used? Is that black Korina? How does it sound?

Too nice! I'm all for stripped down guitar finishes, but I actually liked that finish a lot. It looks like the exclusive wood used inside classy boats.

I hand wet sanded all the way up to 12000 with micromesh and then did 3 grades of compound with an auto polishing pad on my drill.

Yes it is black korina and it sounds pretty good.. the gtr resonates nicely when strummed unplugged. it's not very "bright" though I would say it is pretty even tempered and no single frequency really jumps out (at least with the pups i have in it right now.. it also has a big fat '59 profile neck which may be helping to tone down some of the "spank" one would normally associate with a strat. It's a superstrat and it sounds like one! I am interested to see how it changes with time. My tele sounded like poo when i first got it but 7 years later it is my favorite guitar.
