Let's talk caps for a min?

Re: Let's talk caps for a min?

well, I repeated what I read in one of Ken Fischer's columns :

"Another interesting point is that, if you reverse the cap end to end, it will sound different in use."

it's down near the bottom, along with some other interesting reading on the subject:)

Here's what I find happens with different values of caps..Using the same brand as an example....

If I take a .02 or .022 cap and use it as my tone control cap, here's what happens compared to say a .047 cap on my tone control...

The .02 cap takes longer to darken the overall tone as I roll towards 0 on my tone pot...

The .047 cap takes me less time on the tone control to shunt the highs to ground and or darken my guitar's tone as I roll to 0...Also..The .047 gives me a darker tone with the tone control on 0 compared to the .022 cap...How all this effects the tone control's eq or frequencies is something that intriques me with the way Lew explains it..I also know that the tone cap value does make a difference even with the tone control on 10 unless you use a No Load Tone Pot...That's always my findings with tone caps..Maybe the 50s wiring alters how we hear the tone controls in both cases since I Like treble bleed circuits in my guitars usually?

How is Ken? Still battling the CFS? I used to spend hours on the phone with him years ago talking about amps...What a soft spoken great guy Ken is...

Re: Let's talk caps for a min?

well what is inside a tone cap that would work differently if the flow was reversed? I really do not know what is inside one of these things or how they work really i just know where i need to put them and where to ground them so they do work.
