Line 6 POD HD400 ($399.00USD)
Years of groundbreaking research have led us to create an entirely new set of modeling tools. Using the resulting HD amp modeling technology to recreate 16 vintage and modern amps from the ground up has led us to POD HD.

Proprietary research tools, unparalleled technical expertise and painstaking attention to detail has allowed Line 6 to deliver the most authentic tone and realistic feel ever available in any amp modeling product.

Main Features:

• A covetable collection of 16 amps delivered with unmatched HD realism
• An inspiring compilation of 100 effects including the complete set from the critically acclaimed DL4, MM4, FM4 and DM4.
• Amazing new effects including looping, pitch shifting and harmonizing for additional creative expression.
• Comprehensive I/O including analog, digital, balanced, unbalanced, Variax and USB means you’re always ready to perform in any environment.
• Flexible signal chain scales within the line from easy pre/post routing to allowing any effect to be placed in any slot in any order.
• Compatibility with new Line 6 adaptive amps enables an unprecedented level of integration, communication and control.
• All metal construction including heavy duty metal footswitches and expression pedal to withstand on-stage abuse.

Brick by brick, our entire approach to amp modeling was torn apart and redesigned from the ground up. Our two-year journey finally delivered us to the tonal promised land: a set of HD amp models so advanced they offer previously unachievable realism in attack, dynamics, compression, and aggression. The amp modeling originators have revolutionized amp modeling. Again.
We scoured the globe for the 16 vintage and modern amps every guitarist will covet. Full-bodied California cleans, dynamic class-A breakup, searing high-gain tones – POD HD showcases them all, in stunning HD! Plus, generous collections of legendary Line 6 effects deliver more than enough sonic colors and textures to inspire performance in
every player.

Any seen these or get a chance to test them yet?

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

read a buttload about them on TGP but none on the street yet ... very favourable prereview hints from beta testers but not much more

look interesting

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

I'll probably buy one. The POD (or similar modeling technology) isn't something I would ever put on a releasable project as it just doesn't sit well in a mix for me with actual mic'd amps, but it's integral to my writing method.

Besides, I never bought the X3. I could use an upgrade.

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

Is this their answer to Fractal's Axe FX? I love my PODXT as a personal device for practice and rough direct recording but the live sound just does not cut it for anything except clean and light grit tones. It would have to really be radically different for me to consider it.

I am not sure if is an answer to Axe-Fx. Price will be cheaper but the they substantially decreased the number of amps they have modeled. Axe-Fx has an increasing number of amps (more than 70) and POD is going down to 16 from 70s.

I am not sure if one can use them all but more is better IMO.

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

Uh... what's the HD part?

On a related note, B2D once told me that Axe FX makes my line 6 pod x3 live seem like a rockman.

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

^^Yeah, but Cliff @ Fractal has said that the POD HD500 will probably be about on par with the AxeFX Standard.

I personally can't wait to try one; the amps they chose to model are awesome, the effects I'm sure will be great, and if it really is close to the Axe, it'll be 1/3 the price, which is even better.

That's good news.

I've been drawn to the AxeFX for its fidelity and realism, but haven't really considered getting one due to the price in consideration with it just being way, way more than I need.

If the POD HD can compete for sound quality on a smaller, more affordable scale, it'll be perfect for me.

I would much rather have 16 really good amps than 70 mediocre ones. I don;t even think I use more than 16 on my PODXT on a regular basis. I just gravitate towards about 8 which I can work with.

Well the processors keep getting more powerful and affordable.. You never know... The current Line 6 stuff sounds OK for certain types of tones and I have seen others use them live with decent results.... It was just a disaster when I tried to to that for a brief period.... They just cut through the mix in a very weird way and require excess volume to be heard over the other instruments.. The situations I have seen them work have been Reggae type stuff on Cruise ships where you don't want to be lugging equipment around... salt air, heat, humidity and sudden rain storms, etc...

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

Putting HD in the name of something means its cooler then regular. Kinda how people used "Extreme" in the 90's

Well if it is a turd you can polish it up but it still is what it is... BTW: The other guitarist in my current band got frustrated with the Axe FX after the honeymoon ended and went back to tube amps.... It is closer than anything to date though. I think eventually modeling will get there.. It is getting close.

Agreed. I was assuming the new HD would sound as good as the Axe-FX.

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

while I'm going to try one like anything else that comes out, and I dig virtual stuff, by implying they re-did their approach from the ground up, they are basically saying the stuff that they have out right now and released in the past wasn't as good as they had suggested when they originally came out.

maybe if they presented it in a way that didn't suggest that, but with modelling and technology, I guess you sort of have to imply that things become obsolete in order for people to take the plunge on the next line of stuff. but I can't help but feel that this product that isn't even out yet will be obsolete soon - but for now, it's the bee's knees.

It's never fun telling people the top of the line stuff they bought in the past was good but not as good as the latest and greatest.. Line 6 should have a trade up program IMO though..

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

Man... none of you guys are very good at this.

Took me not even 10 minutes to find these... and pricing... and a list of amp models etc.
