Line 6 POD HD Series

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

I'm interested in these, but I don't think I would have much use for one unless I really got serious about recording an album. That just isn't going to happen, so I don't think I have much use for one. However, I think they're pretty interesting, and I'll be interested to see what people think about them.

One thing I can say for Line 6 is that they're constantly working on new things. Whether it's good or bad is in the ear of the beholder, I guess, but it's cool that they're pushing the envelope technologically. I don't think they're targeting people like me, but I like the POD Studio UX2 I bought, and I'm glad they're out there innovating.

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

I'm interested but not $500 interested...

I love my Flextone III; but like others, it took a lot of tweaking to get it where I wanted it.

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

I bought one.

You heard me.

Expect a real review from a dude who hates his x3 live, *****es.

I'll be looking forward to that, seriously. A few demo clips might be nice, too. ;)

If you can get it to sound as good as Mark's AxeFX here (seeing as the HD500 is supposedly supposed to be on par with one), I might consider one.

Saw these on another forum.

I thought they sounded darn good.

It just shows, that in the right hands, these units can sound great.

Not bad at all but I really can't hear any difference from the X3 Live. Maybe its just me.

He's got a review out there too

I'm still not terribly impressed... everything on there sounds so grainy and gritty and just.... egh.

I REALLY would like to see these units outperform Line 6's last POD series by a considerable margin, but I'm not being led to believe that's gonna be the case here.

Anyone on here wanna change my mind?

I'm not too impressed either. I expected more. I still criticize the use of the term HD in regards to these products. It feels like it's just a selling point. After listening to the videos, I now know it is.

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

The next version will be the Full HD model. It will have FULL HIGH DEFINITION audio. Then they will introduce a 3D model that processes sound in THE THIRD DIMENSION.

After that they will release a unit that syncs with your facebook or twitter account that will automatically alert to your friends what settings are in use. They will call it the iP.O.D.

 that's so common these days. I wonder if universities will eventually register students with a link that says "click here to login with facebook".

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

Here's a few more clips:

Bit of clipping on the clean bits, though.

More clips from vettaville:

Clips are useless in comparison to actually using something, though. I'm withholding my judgment until I grab one.

With that being said, I may post a clip or two after I've got my head around the unit. I'll be mostly messing around with the ENGL and Recto models though, in all likelihood.

Really? because I thought that was just grainy crap.

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

I'm finally figuring out the X3L. I can't imagine trying to figure out a NEW one.

Maybe some of your ears really are sensitive enough, but the majority of folks cannot hear the difference if the POD is programmed well.

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

I've owned a Vetta II, POD and XTLive. I want amp modelers to work SOOOOO bad that I keep buying and hoping and the results are always the same. By themselves they don't sound bad. Straight into the power section of an amp they don't sound bad. Direct into a PA they don't sound bad. Stacked up against other live musicians they don't sound bad.....because you can't hear them!! They don't cut. There is no definition, no spread or bloom and the tone is 'sterile'. The only way I got them to work was to take the bully approach and muscle my way into the mix through sheer volume.

I played in a Floyd tribute band with the Vetta. The other guitar player used a 4x10 Bassman and the Vetta was so very weak and thin in comparison. It was also extrememly directional. If you weren't directly in front of the amp you heard nothing. I spent months tweaking, and tweaking and tweaking and nothing I tried helped that amp cut. I ended up buying a Traynor 4x10 80 watt tube amp and a few pedals and kept that in the rehearsal studio. (I bought the Road King for home use and gigs) The difference was instantly noticed, our overall sound improved ten fold and the jokes were endless!

I later grabbed the XT and whenever I tried using it, other than effects, in a band environment it was the same scene all over again.

I want modelers to work for me but until the day comes when I no longer care or desire to play live with other people and am just noodling in my home, I will not buy another amp modeler.

Vinegar beer.

You sit someone down and say "listen to this record we did entirely with amp modelers and drum machines," you'll get a different response than if you sit them down and say "listen to this record we made."

Though, for the record, I've had similar experience -- though much les of it, I'm sure -- to sbecker when it comes to live applications.

My experience with using modeling live has been exactly the same as yours, which is why my PODXT just stays on the desk as a practi8ce amp and a convenient way to quickly record ideas.

COMPLETELY TRUE

im working on a record right now, and I swear I have people convinced I have an SLO and a dual rec at the studio.

same here. I tried using it to rehearse, and while I could hear the fizz from the distortion coming from the amo model... that was pretty much all that was there.

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

the really sad part of it all is as of yesterday I now own a Mesa Road King head, Fender Hot Rod Deluxe combo, Bugera V22 combo, Marshall JCM2000 TSL60 head, a Vox Heritage AC15 combo, two 2x12 cabs and soon to be adding another pair of 2x12 cabinets.

I bought the amp modelers to avoid being in this situation; G'darnit!!

Re: Line 6 POD HD Series

The JCM800 still sounds thin and weak, just like all the other POD items I've had in the past. Sure you can tweak with the Parametric EQ, but it is not the same, not even close. The edition of the JTM45 is very cool. The omission of the jumped Plexi and OMFG the hallowed SLO---right there makes it terribly worthless to me.

All this POD stuff doesn't come close to how a real amp works with an overdrive pedal in front, modeled pedal or real. Volume knob on the guitar, forget it, just wire your pickups straight to the output jack.

The effects offered, looping, and routing options seem cool. Oh wait, they allready made that. It's called the M series.

A modeler without an SLO:banghead:
