Line6 Amplifi . . . ermmmmm, what ?

Just saw this thing on the internet . . . what do you think about it ?

http://line6.com/amplifi/

. . . where is it all gonna end ?

Re: Line6 Amplifi . . . ermmmmm, what ?

Its gonna end there, hopefully. I played with one a bit and its really annoying and very fake sounding. Take the Spider, add a cab sim and run it thru a boom box that you can only operate with Bluetooth. Its a high priced version of the JamVox and whatever Roland has come up with and totally the wrong direction for the company.

off u see did MRSAge, I m on tapa talk and auto correct is hating on me

Re: Line6 Amplifi . . . ermmmmm, what ?

ya its feature is that it can play music from youir cell and your guitar

but thats why they have stereos, there is no reason to combine them! it does sound horrible.

I hate line 6 service and policies, my toneport direct recording died and they would not fix it and would not even let me keep the software it came with!

Re: Line6 Amplifi . . . ermmmmm, what ?

I was hoping that line 6 would steer into being competitive with axefx or try and push the tube + modeling thing to its limit, but they're messing around with full spectrum speaker and array modeling instead.
I like the idea, but I think its way overengineered. Another company is going to design one that sounds better with plug And play effort and line 6 will lose out.
This thing is more for the Yamaha side of things anyway. Yamaha may be trying to do a sibling of the tr amps that do all this, but they'll do it better.

Re: Line6 Amplifi . . . ermmmmm, what ?

I played through one of these at GC a couple weeks ago. Truly sounded/felt...wrong...in my opinion. No touch sensitivity; sounded like playing through your stereo.

I'm always on the lookout for a reasonably priced, light weight alternative to the tube amp. Lugging heavy amps to rehearsals/jams isn't fun for me, so that's why I keep trying things like this Line6 deal. This one's definitely not worth the money, imho.

Re: Line6 Amplifi . . . ermmmmm, what ?

My hope is that, after I go ahead and buy that Mustang V head, it will have a means to run stuff from the FX loop or aux-in with straight power amp in stereo, then I'd just want to run those into full-range PA speakers with a cab emulation on the guitar tone. Or something.

Re: Line6 Amplifi . . . ermmmmm, what ?

Not for me. I've heard that even the Vetta heads sound nicer.

The Vetta is actually pretty wicked.

Line 6 needs to focus on that tech instead of bluetooth speakers. Just because you can connect a bluetooth transmitter to your guitar via a 1/4 inch jack and play through an Ihome doesn't mean you should.

Re: Line6 Amplifi . . . ermmmmm, what ?

At the Baltimore Gretsch Roundup in March, a friend of my Brother was there to play a set of Beatles covers and he was talking up this new amp. Said it was the only Line6 amp he had ever liked.my brother even thought it sounded good when everyone was just goofing around with it. So his set came and he was playing a Ric 12 string doing his best John Lennon (and he and the band were really good!) and it was so blatantly a modeller. It didnt sit all that well in the Mix, sounded small, distant, and fake. He had it set up to mimic a Vox amp of some sort. The other fellow (george harrison, lol) in the set was playing a Deluxe Reverb , and it was the complete oppposite.it In fact 95% of the guys there were playing new or old fenders or old old Gretsch amps,.and the amplifi was the only one that sounded "meh", the entire time I was there.

I was actually surprised, as it seemed like a cool amp as he described it to me..

Re: Line6 Amplifi . . . ermmmmm, what ?

Sounds ok in that video. Not my thing but sounds better than expected given what everyone's saying.

Seems to me, that this thing is 'kinda' like a low end Bose-like iPad entertainment thingy for your room, that just happens to have capability for you to plug your Epiphone or Squire into, to jam with your fav Blink 182, or Green Day songs !

Am i wrong with my perception of this product ?

I would say so. I guarantee that you can make it sound great when playing by yourself or with a recording, but in a band context I'm gonna say its a no go.

I suggest trying it. your local GC will have it sitting in the middle of the store and ready to go. it really isn't very good.

Re: Line6 Amplifi . . . ermmmmm, what ?

Chappers hot rod guitar in that video is the bomb by the way.

Have you guys seen the video where they introduced it.

Re: Line6 Amplifi . . . ermmmmm, what ?

It would have been cool in my student/apartment dwelling days. But it's a bit of a solution without a problem. Most people who record or use iPads and such already have decent speakers either on their computer or stereo (do you still call it a stereo? Or am I just old?)

I wish modelling companies would spend more time perfecting some basic models rather than trying to do everything in one box. I have a Mustang III, which I admit I use more for practicing/jamming than my tube amps because of the convenience (and, I admit, the weight!). But I pretty much use only the classic Fender models (which are quite good, to tell the truth). But it took me a while to get past the (mostly lame) preset tones (which seem to be directed at the kids-jamming-in-GC market) and dig down to the basic models and how to work them properly.

a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. eloquent.

quilter needs to build a class D loudspeaker/amp and show everyone how its done.

I've had a few friends that had Fender super champs and they raved about them. I guess it can be used as an example of modeling done right.

Maybe someday - I walked right past it recently at GC and didn't care to check it out. I agree with the assertion that it solves a problem that isn't there. Now if they made a cheaper version of a kemper type thing I'd be interested.

On the day I was in GC I played through a super tiny mustang to check out an axe and it was just fine.
