Line6 Pod Farm released and yes, it did upgrade free

Just FYI for those of you who, like me, bought the Toneport DI Gold or Silver Bundle for $99

You can download the new Pod Farm interface and plugin from the L6 site for free and all the add on model packs etc from the former gold bundle to carry over.

Makes that DI bundle even more of a sweet deal. For $99 you not only got a great interface, but the Gearbox stand alone with all 3 of the add on model packs, plus the VST plug in ability, which was a few hundred worth of software. Now on top of that, the new Pod Farm software your able to upgrade to for free, and since you already had the VST plugin ability, you can run Pod Farm as a stand alone or VST. Pretty cool

Now if its just a cosmetic upgrade of the old Gearbox, well.............

Truth be told it sounds the same to me. Interface is a bit slicker yes, but the effects routing etc is still limited

You do get a few hundred new patches and the dual mode support though which is cool

As for how do the patches sounds.....well............. lol

Truth be told, sims like Amplitube, Revalver MKIII, guitar rig 3 etc still do sound way better and are so much more flexible.

I mean come on L6, why limit me where I can put a wah, and why still only 1 mod, one delay etc

Ampltube lets me put whatever pedal in front of whatever other pedal or if I want to run 3 chours in a row etc, I can.

Thats all neither here nor there though I guess

Point is, if you've got the Toneport line, check the site and you should be able to at least upgrade your gearbox version.

Maybe looking better might even make you think it sounds better LOL

Truth be told, some of the models do seem to sound a bit better to me, a bit fuller, more dynanic, less fizzy and overall not quite as steril.

The stuff in the Metal Shop pack in particular sounds pretty good. The Bogner and Engl's should really appeal to the metal folks

Upgraded from Gearbox Stand Alone to POD Farm today
I think at least the Brit 800 and Treadplate models sounded more natural then on Gearbox and the dual amp mode is really fun that said the only reason I had gearbox was because I wanted a cheap interface with amp simulation software and I wouldn't get the purely software package as there are better albiet more expensive amp sims out there (Amplitube, Guitar Rig among others)

Thanks for the info. I'll check this out tomorrow!
Excited about dual amp mode.

Gearbox aka Pod Farm does give some pretty cool effects if you have the gold bundle or fx junkie expansion. Lots of rather unique rind mods, filters etc. Sort of the same stuff as the purple filter pedal I'm guessing.

Definatly not bread and butter effects you'd really use much, but it does give some sounds that you can't get from the likes of Amplitube, Revalver etc

I also like the variety in the 7 wah pedals, having some unique ones like a Colorsound wah for example.

Gearbox never was a software that I used extensively, but it can provide for some intresting sounds in a variety of styles.

Being able to get the free upgrade to the Pod Farm line and still have all my expansion packs work was a nice plus. the new GUI is much slicker, though as I said, soundwise its not exactly reinventing the wheel.

Like James, I basically just wanted the audio interface. Getting the software was just sort of a free bonus.

The toneports are in fact very nice recording interfaces, compact, affordable and sound quite good for the money. Nice thing for me is having a big volume knob right on the front.

One jack to plug my guitar, stereo outs in the back to hook into my studio monitors and a volume knob. Simple and effect and under $100

Also upgraded Gear Box to Pod Farm, and I also agree that the sounds seem a little bit warmer and more full. Possibly due to the newer drivers.

The layout of the files seems a little bit more user friendly, and the dual rigs option is pretty nice.

Yeh as I have the basic version its annoying switching to most of the presets seeing I can't use those crazy effects and nice amps (Hi-Watt, Twin Reverb etc)

Re: Line6 Pod Farm released and yes, it did upgrade free

Hi-watt is definatly cool for any Gilmour type stuff along with the Echo Platter. I've actually known guys to buy the delay pro modeler just to get that Echo Platter effect, such a big part of his sound

More I'm playing with Pod Farm the more I'm liking it truth be told. Its got some really nice sound cleans sounds and the heavy stuff actually has pretty good bottom end and sounds nice and tight. Alot of modelers sound rather thin and fizzy

Engl Fireball, Uberschall, Xtascy etc all are nice and chunky with tons of gain. JCM800 model actually gets that classic hot rodded marshall late 80's hard rock sound as well.

Sonically reminds me a bit of the tones my Sansamp PSA-1 could do

Re: Line6 Pod Farm released and yes, it did upgrade free

I have an old Guitar Port and even I got the free upgrade. It's certianly more fun.
