Line6 TonePort vs. M-Audio BlackBox vs. ?

Re: Line6 TonePort vs. M-Audio BlackBox vs. ?

c'mon, nobody has input on these CAI's?

I need some help, Christmas is coming soon!

Re: Line6 TonePort vs. M-Audio BlackBox vs. ?

The problem is, I haven't tried the M-Audio. However, I DO own a TonePort, and I am loving it. It's incredibly versatile--of course, it takes a while to tweak the "perfect" tones, but that's half the fun and I honestly do feel almost limitless in my tonal possibilities. The cleans, the crunch, the heavy gains, the pedals, and the FX are all usable and of good to high quality. The presets sometimes might sound bad, but usually, if you just try recording with them and mess with panning a little bit, they actually turn out pretty good.
I really think they made my recordings sound at least 10x better.

I hope that helps somehow. I'm sure the other TonePort guys on this forum will chime in, and maybe we even have somebody on here who owns a BlackBox, or has at least tried it out.

Yeah mate as Biu said ,i never tried the BlackBox.I herd good and bad things about it ,but i used it just for 20 minutes ,and that was not for recording!
The Toneport is a great device.with 99$ extra ,you have allmost no limits for finding greta tones!
it has great feauters like a media player wich allows you play half speed and such ,and you can download thousand s of tones from othe members by customtone!
The soudn qualitiy is great ,Cubase sx2 ,ableton live 4+ ,Sony Acid Pro works perfect with it!

Re: Line6 TonePort vs. M-Audio BlackBox vs. ?

I've heard some other users say it was "too digital" or "made their guitar sound like a computer"

any experiences in this vane?

Re: Line6 TonePort vs. M-Audio BlackBox vs. ?

I'm another Toneport user and I like mine alot! I haven't had it that long and I'm terrible at writing reviews :laugh2: but there are a ton of possiblites that I haven't even gotten to yet. I have the UX2 and for $200 I say its an excellent tool for anyone looking to record on a budget.

Re: Line6 TonePort vs. M-Audio BlackBox vs. ?

The blackbox has the advantage of having a drum machine built in. Other than that, it works good, has a mic input and guitar input.

Re: Line6 TonePort vs. M-Audio BlackBox vs. ?

do you have an M-Audio BlackBox?

if so, can I get some more detail on your opinion of the machine

Re: Line6 TonePort vs. M-Audio BlackBox vs. ?

A friend of mine has the M-Audio black box. I know nothing about it though.

Go to http://www.myspace.com/jgreid to hear some tracks he recorded.

I don't know much about it all. I laid some guitar parts down for him running my POD into the box (only one of those is posted, and it is the worst one IMO). The music isn't anything awesome.

Sorry I can't give you any info about the software/hardware though.

Re: Line6 TonePort vs. M-Audio BlackBox vs. ?

Blackbox pros: syncable effects and a few good models.
Toneport pros: good pre amps, lot's of good models, syncable effects by tempo number, you have to type it in where the BB syncs via usb cable.
The BB has a terrible whine in a certin register that I can't stand the Toneport sounds like Line6 you either hate it or like it.

Of the two Toneport by quite a bit imo.

Can't comment on the black box but I do have a tone port. Great for gettin those ideas down quick and sounds pretty dang good too. I recently streamlined my home studio as I was focusing too much on gear and obtaining gear in order to "sound better".. well I found I wasn't being very productive musically. The tp has solved that!

Oh , I forgot to mention this earlier...if you decide to get the toneport, download the line6 monkey before you buy it. I ended up getting mine only to find out the chipset in my PC has some conflict with audio devices such as the Toneport. I seem to be the only one around here that had this problem. Just lookin' out for you.
