List What You Feel Are The Most Consistent Guitar String Brand

Re: List What You Feel Are The Most Consistent Guitar String Brand

Ernie Ball for electrics, GHS Boomers for bass, D'Addario for acoustics, and Augustine for classical.

I like S.I.T. really well, used them for years.

D'Addario for me. Which perhaps explains why a couple of my guitars are peeing me off at the moment, as they still have the factory fitted ones on them.

Re: List What You Feel Are The Most Consistent Guitar String Brand

Snake Oil Brand Rock Formula. I've been using them now for about 5 years, and they are both the best sounding and most consistent strings I've ever used. When there have been supply issues, I have tried Pyramid and Curt Mangan, and while both were good, neither felt or sounded as good as the Snake Oils. In the past I've used EB, GHS, DR and D'Addario only in emergencies. None of them get near the SOB in terms of tone, feel, consistency or longevity. D'Addario are the most consistent of the generic bunch, but they are consistently average.

I've not noticed any differences in consistency from brand to brand.

Re: List What You Feel Are The Most Consistent Guitar String Brand

I've never not found consistency. That is, I find D'addario to consistently suck and go dull within a week, and GHS boomers to be pretty damn good.

Another vote for D'Addario being delightfully consistent. I use them on my non-vibrato guitars and my acoustics.

I use Fender Super Bullets on my G&L guitars with the Dual Fulcrum Vibrato.

I have used almost every major brand and some minor ones.

D'addario, Dean Markley, Pyramid, Ernie Ball, DR (Tite Fit, DDT, Dime sig, Alexi Laiho sig), Dunlop, GHS (Boomers, Progressives), Aurora. With all of these NO PROBLEMS what so ever with anything. Sound good, stay in tune, no intonation problems. I use whatever brand they sell in the first store I go into. The best sounding strings are the Aurora strings. They are coated string whichare plated in almost every colour you can imagine. Shiny gold, silver, blue, red, purple, orange, green and matte black and matte white. You can check all the colours in their website. The shiny colour sound slightly brighter than the matte colours but both sound awesome, stay in tune, feel great.

Only strings I've had problems with are Rotosound and DR Neon strings. I've had two ROtosound set and both were hard to tune they didn't stay in tune and didn't feel so good. They DR Neon string felt and sounded good but they stayed in tune even worse than the Rotosounds and they Neon plating came off after a couple hours playing from the area where you pick and where the string touches the frets.

D'Addario (the XL and the coated ones) and Elixir strings have always been pretty consistently good.

Re: List What You Feel Are The Most Consistent Guitar String Brand

Over the years I have tryed probably all of the main brands of guitar strings...I was a GHS Boomer user for several years and my guitar tech at that time said D Addario XLs were consistent. They were and still are also inexpensive compared to other brands....I'd say these have been my go to strings for almost 20 years...Lately I've been using the EB Pure Nickel Slinkys and loving them..They seem to have less string tension and they are slightly warmer to my ears on my strats and Teles compared to the D Addarios..

Anyway....My current list would be like this and in no order..

D Addario XL .010
EB Pure Nickel .010(yellow pack)
DR Pure Blues .010
DR Tite Fit(Least favorite)
GHS Nickel Rockers .010
GHS Boomers .010
Pyramid .010(These are excellent strings)

Would like to try the Snake Oil Brand and I also have some GHS Burnished that I need to try...

I use D'Addario XL 115's (11 through 49) and D'Addario J17 acoustics(13 through 56). I have been using these for over a decade now. I rarely use anything else because these work for me. I get great life out of these strings, I never break them and they sound great!

However recently(last year) I tried the Dean Markley Jimi Hendrix strings(they were $1.99 per set). After having them on my Strat for about 2 or 3 days I realized.... they didn't make me sound like Jimi at all.... What a rip off!!

I've had wonk from even the "consistent" brands everyone touts like Dad, DM, and EB.

Most consistent I've tried have been Gibson Brite Wires & VRs- doesn't matter what gauge or when or where I buy them, they always are super fresh, tune up easy, intonate fine, and stay that way.

Worst have been DR strings- more wonk than good.

Re: List What You Feel Are The Most Consistent Guitar String Brand

The most consistent for me have been Dean Markley and Ernie Ball. I've been using EB's lately with no issues.

DR have been the worst for me as well.

I really like Gibson strings, but very few stores around here carry them :(

D'Addarios always work for me too. 9-46.

Re: List What You Feel Are The Most Consistent Guitar String Brand

Darco doesn't corrode under humid conditions and it's cheap too. Even D'Addario XL is behind it.
