List your Guitars and pickups in them

Re: List your Guitars and pickups in them

TheLivingDead, you seem to be a big DMZ fan, and a real fan of the Tone Zone in the bridge. I've never tried a DMZ pup before.

Oh yeah. I've tried a bunch of SD's but always seem to come back to DMZ. Mainly for 80's metal tones, but also for classic rock and beyond. The Tone Zone is a definite fave of mine. In the right guitar the thing creates a tone like no other pup can recreate. *Perfect* for what I do. I like their customer service as well. Always happy to shoot the **** about pups n what not.

Not to take away from SD at all. I've heard great things about their CS and I know I just haven't tried the right pups for my tastes. There are a few SD's I'm looking at for my next project.

But yeah, if you go DMZ I'd go for a classic, like the Super Distortion, first. DMZ has some very extreme, very unique to their name, flavors that I'd hate for you to get and be turned off by instantly. There are some extremely accurate tone descriptions on their site to help you determine what you're after. Good luck if you go the DMZ route! I seriously doubt you'd be disappointed. :)

Re: List your Guitars and pickups in them

I'm too tired. And I don't have one of those electric eye thingies. And I'm not a good player. I'm too busy posting on the forum to practice. I hire a grad student in India to practice for me. Her rates are very reasonable, and she sounds cute on the phone.

Re: List your Guitars and pickups in them

The Stratocaster has an Invader. I wired it parallel once, and that was a GREAT tone, but I started using a 5150 III live and wanted to hear the rumble of the full power invader.

****in metal

the tele right now has fender texas specials. i think ill go alnico pro in the bridge and get a 59n humbucker though.

my Jaguar has a Super Distortion in the bridge. it's a GREAT rock tone, but... that's pretty much it. its not better or worse than a JB... it's just a different sound.

My 78 stang (same year the DS-1 came out, haha.) has a Hot rails in the bridge with a switch that goes series/parallel. ive yet to try it out as a split bucker... i bought the wrong 3 way mini switch. :(

Re: List your Guitars and pickups in them

I've never heard the 89R.. what's it all about?

it is a regular 89 but when you coil tap,the back coil stays on instead of the front coil hence R for reversed.:cool2: most guys didnt like the upside down EMG logo if they flipped the 89 pup 180 degrees so EMG offered the 89R.

Re: List your Guitars and pickups in them

EBMM Axis/EVH - It doesn't have Ed's sig, but nor does it have the Axis contoured body or moved electrics, so it's an oddity. Stock pups.

:)
VERY COOL! thats still a official EVH with the same exact spec's as any other EVH. these were offered for a very short time after VH first left EBMM before the axis became the new standard model, with the toggle relocated, slightly different neck and the contour at the belly. and i am glad to see you did not feel it needed different pu's! the stock dimarzio's are the best in these. wanna sell them?:naughty: LOL

The other way around. On a normal 89, the "single" coil is under the logo. On the R, it's reversed to that the active single coil is opposite the logo. I got it this way so that it would be a little more like a Strat neck sound, on a guitar with a 24-fret neck.
