LIttle Game here. Strats and Teles....

Okay, let's play. One of my favorite things about a Telecaster is also one of the things I don't like about Stratocasters. Can you guess what it is? Hint, I may have a bad pot...

Re: LIttle Game here. Strats and Teles....

....metal bridge?

the tuning stability of a stop-tail telecaster?

Re: LIttle Game here. Strats and Teles....

wish strats had a bridge plate on which the bridge pickup was mounted so it didn't sound so thin and plinky.

Re: LIttle Game here. Strats and Teles....

No middle pickup on a Tele...three pickups on a Strat?

Tone control on the bridge pickup of Tele...no tone control on the bridge pickup of a Strat?

I wired my strat so the bridge pickup and neck pickup each have their own dedicated tone control. nothing on the middle pickup though.

Yep. That's how I wire mine too...but it's stock only on the Eric Johnson Strats as far as I know.

It may seem like sacriledge, but I wired my Strat with a master tone set up 50s Gibson style and a Fralin blender. Absolutely love the results.

Re: LIttle Game here. Strats and Teles....

Great guesses, and all are true; but not quite what I am looking for.

One thing I like about Teles: I can lift the control plate and deal with any wiring problem easily.

On a Strat, I have to remove the strings and the pickguard. I have a volume pot that when you go from 0 to 10, it cuts out then comes back at almost full blast.

Re: LIttle Game here. Strats and Teles....

When I did this latest Strat I did Neck Tone + Bridge Tone (and nothing on mid) thanks to Lew's suggestion, I like it! It really retains the bright positions 2 & 4, and also allows a bit of restraint on the bridge when it needs a little taming...

Re: LIttle Game here. Strats and Teles....

Standard tele has metal plate under knobs that sometimes looks out of place. Standard strats rarely come without whammy bar so no fixed bridge and tuning remains shaky. Nothing that can't be fixed. Still my two favorite guitars!

Re: LIttle Game here. Strats and Teles....

I don't have to deal with a tone control for the bridge pickup. It's a humbucker and because the volume pot is 250k, I don't really need the tone control.
