Look what followed me home from Chicago Music Exchange --

Re: Look what followed me home from Chicago Music Exchange --

Wow, cool! How much does it weigh? Some LPs in that era were over 11 lbs!

This one is actually very light. One reason why I liked it (I usually play SGs, that weigh just under 7lbs). I think it's about 9.5 lbs or so. It is still the heaviest guitar I have but it's not terrible.

I used it at rehearsal last night, it did great. Still trying to figure out some minor noise issues with it, but no showstoppers.

The '77 LPC I mentioned weighed 10.5lbs; if I played it for an entire rehearsal I'd feel like I was levitating when I took it off. The LP Standard that I ended up keeping weighs 8.5lbs. The heaviest guitar I own is my Explorer at just a hair over 9lbs. After the LPC I decided that I wasn't interested in anything heavier than the Explorer.

Wow, those are some serious weights! I am used to playing a 6lb guitar, so 9-13 lbs would just about kill me no matter how good it sounded.

That's one guitar I'd love to have sitting next to the rest of my Gibsons. Total Ronson/Rhoads vibe.

Not sure I could jive with a fretless wonder though. Are you getting used to the flat frets?

As a fan of vintage guitars, I wish I could go back in time and smack anyone who drills holes for switches or aftermarket tuners. At this point, you could either have it filled and paint matched, or just use it with a DPDT switch and some splittable humbuckers. It opens up a world of mellower tones on a Gibson.

Yeah the hole is annoying, but I can live with it. The guitar doesn't have a ground wire to the tailpiece, so the hole may come in handy to run a wire until I can have someone fix it properly.

It definitely has a Ronson vibe (one of my favorite players) and also Steve Jones, another one of my faves. And of course Randy but I can't play like that! hehehe....

I would just like to say that the CME is one of the best guitar shops in the country. Certainly the best I've been to.

I'm not a huge LP guy, but I'm all sorts of jealous. That thing has character like no other. Great looking guitar all around!

That looks great, white turned cream is awesome. I love late 70's Norlin Les Pauls because of the thinner three piece maples necks, and they don't have pancake bodies like the earlier ones did. They are stronger than sh*t and add some cut to the tone. I had an natural '81 but sold it and still have a '78 black beauty and both weigh around 11 lbs.

Did someone swap pickups for a set of BB Pros? AFAIK a stock '79 LPC would have T-Tops since Shaws weren't introduced until later. I owned a '77 LPC for a few years that had a set of T-Tops (with no ground wire!), but I ended up selling it because I needed the $$$ and I played my LP Standard far more often. Either way yours looks pretty sweet and I hope you enjoy it more than I did mine.

Happy NGD!

:D

I bought the twin to that guitar (no mini toggle though) and it is a 1980 and it had Shaw's in it, when did the Shaw's start going in? One of them is dated 1979.
