looking for a new amp

so about a year ago i bought a rocktron rt122c for $350. i learned that bigger isnt always better. so now i wanna try to sell that, and buy something more reliable. I need something i can hold on to and hopefully use for small gigs later on. i play mostly metal, but i'd like it to sound nice with softer, jazzier stuff too. really cant spend too much on it, seeing as how im 16 with no job :crying: ...any suggestions?

Re: looking for a new amp

not sure..trying to get a feel for prices. cheapest i can get with still getting a relatively reliable gig worty amp. would a few hundred be too low?

Re: looking for a new amp

If you're going to play metal, you will need a 1/2 stack, at least.
What kind of budget are we talking about? What style of music? What guitars, other gear to you own? What kind of overall sound are you shooting for?

For metal, I can make a couple of blanket recommendations, regardless: Marshall JCM800 ... Engl Power Ball ... VHT Pitbull ... Rivera Knucklehead.

Re: looking for a new amp

I think TO has got some good base ideas right there. But you'll need to spend at least $1000 to get a good amp.

oh I forgot about Ebay. Take a look around you can find some NICE amps for amazing prices. Search Marshall or Mesa.

Re: looking for a new amp

I would buy anything from tech 21 that is in your price range. They are outstanding amps for the dollar. They can give you good distortions and great cleans. BTW, the price ranges on them are $249-$750. I have two Marshall halfstacks and the neighbors kid got a trademark 10 for christmas and It was a solid and good sounding little amp. I was very impressed. For gigs, you will probally want at least a 60. Though the 10 or 30 might work well through the PA.

Get a Tech21 trademark off of ebay. I am not sure what they sell for on there but, I would get the biggest on you can afford.

The Vox Valvetronix series are excellent amps with a variety of tones. The AD50VT is suitable for gigging, and from experience, is a great amp.

Re: looking for a new amp

I'm using an Ibanez ToneBlaster 25R, which only ran me 250 or so. It's got real heavy distortion, and it's good clean if you mess around with the EQ. Plus, it has built-in reverb. For the price, the Ibanez 25R gets the thumbs-up from me.

Peavey 5150 combo, used, would work.
That would work but, That possibly might be a little out of his price range unless he can find one hell of a good deal. It may be possible though.

The best purchase I made was my Marshall TSL602. This amp is perfect for all types of rock. The best thing about it is you can get a 2x12 cab later and BAM! you've got a half stack.

Oh yeah, I got mine from AMS for less than $1000 as an open box item. Maybe you can find one on Ebay for less.
