Looking for feedback on Marshall MG100HDFX

Re: Looking for feedback on Marshall MG100HDFX

I've gigged with the MG series and haven't had any reliability issues.. and btw hiss, hum, and feedback come with most amps when played loud.. a Boss NS-2 is a staple of any pedalboard.. as far as the tone, the scooped tone is a bit buzzy and not very clear and the mid tones are a bit too brash.. the MG cab is great though for the price, very tight bottom end and won't flab out with the MG100dfx cranked to 10.. but shoot for a used AVT50 and you'll be in the same price range.. the clean is less stale and the distortion is much more articulate

Look around for a used tube amp from the $500-$600 range. IMO, anything more than $400 for a SS amp is pointless bbecause beyond that you can find a good tube amp that will stomp the tone of a SS amp. I got my Mesa Mark III combo for only $500 and it will stomp any SS amp out there as well as many tube amps under $1000 IMO.

IMO the MG100DFX doesn't even do a good metal tone. Perhaps 70s metal, but not modern metal. I'd say if you wanna have a cool looking practice rig fr at home, solo use, then go for it. But for band use, tube all the way. Even a 1x12 tube amp will cut through better than that SS half stack.

a little tube combo would blow the doors off of that halfstack. IMO:
tube > solid state
