Loving my SE soapbar

Re: Loving my SE soapbar

I think the SEs sound "close enough" to make most folks happy. The real difference is in the craftsmanship/fit and finish and playability.

Oh, I meant more like do they sound similar to each other - rather than do they sound like their american-made counterpart. I haven't played many american PRS guitars, but the SE models I've played were all nice.

Man I am getting serious GAS now --- time will tell...

Lets see pics of your axe!

Is it a singlecut or a double?

That's infact a very good question. I know, and you will notice if you play american models, that they are different in woods and how they are made.

But as between SE models, there is a difference for sure. The Custom shaped one will have a distinct sound when compared to the single cut, and the hollowbody will have a sound of it's own. They really must be played to compare.

I just need to say that if you are interested in a SE, check on the SE One. Amazing, crazy good sounding guitar.

Re: Loving my SE soapbar

Because of this thread, I have pulled the trigger on a Soapbar SE...

...details to come

Re: Loving my SE soapbar

Wicked! I can't wait for said details.

I've got my camera set up so I can do a video tonight after I get it --- if all goes well, we're talking clips within hours!

I'm looking forward to seeing the build quality, and really looking forward to hearing the P90s. I've also never had a single cutaway guitar, so we're getting into all sorts of new territory here!

Re: Loving my SE soapbar

Well, I did it --- new thread to follow after I can get some pictures and clips

Lightning verdict: GIANT NECK, neck pickup better than bridge, action is too low, might need to put strings bigger than 10's on it

More to come!

nice man...can't wait to see it!!

Re: Loving my SE soapbar

Yeah for an import guitar they`re good for sure. The only problem i found with them is they make me want the real thing, so an SE for me won`t do. If that sorta thing doesn`t bother you they`re cool.

It's hard to photograph, looks solid black, but it's actually a translucent black, with a plain top (mahogany) with a verrrrrrrry subtle burst.

They don't make them in black anymore, this one is an older model.

It's really light --- lightest of all my electrics now.

It's really resonant --- I have never had an electric guitar vibrate like this before!

I will try and photograph it this evening, along with (perhaps) a single coil vs. P90 vs. humbucker demo.

That's what happened with me. I got a SE custom, and 2 months later, it was gone and I was prs shopping again. I'll say it again : those SE models are a ''gateway guitar''.

Let's hope I can refrain from breaking the bank. With new pots, I think this guitar is a keeper

Is it an SE soapbar with only one pickup? I mean, the soapbar is crazy versatile with two pickups.

Immortal, tweak those knobs! So many tones and styles of response from the guitar can be found with the knobs.

Awesome demo of the PRS SE One

And I meant the knobs' quality, not their volume or tone shaping. They are just loose, cheap feeling potentiometers, and they wobble and carry on. They taper just fine as far as I'm concerned, but they feel cheap. I'm glad we had this conversation :laugh2:

Bummer. Mine feel nice, but maybe the owner before me replaced them. Who knows : private:

Re: Loving my SE soapbar

PRS is very good at delivering quality and comfort in the guitars they build, or so I've found from the ones I've played (though that could be because the one I've played most was a 2K + McCarty a friend owns w/ Duncans). Plus the fact it's a soap bar guitar, and P-90s can do so much and sound great in hollow or solid guitars.
