ok so I snagged a beautiful quilt top les paul-style guitar from ebay for 650 dollars w/ shipping... it's a Yamaha AES 920 in honeyburst.. it has a REAL quilt maple cap (with the natural sides instead of binding so you can see the top.. love that PRS style stuff) and a REAL african mahogany back and neck, with dual seymour 59's... it retails for 1,500 dollars new (and that's the sale price, not the higher list price) and is made in Japan... being a previous Epi les paul player I'm not used to this kind of resonance and warmth of tone (when I bought my Epi les paul blue quilt top I actually assumed it was a maple TOP and not just a veneer, same goes with the "mahogany back")
so besides just bragging about this lucky find I want to get some clues on other high-end guitars with low resale values.. if you have any insight, what are some quality guitars which you're pretty much screwed if you buy new (and don't plan on keeping it) and a winner if you buy used.. I'm sure there has to be at least one model Gibby les paul to enter this category
