Lowes 25 pack Alkaline Batteries

Today I bought a 25 pack of Lowes Alkaline Batteries at Lowes .
Price was 23.97, and after tax 25.95. Thats pretty much a buck a battery!
yeah, they are generic, but how bad can they be at that cost?;

They have a similar deal for the AAA's, but Radio Shack has 2 for 1 24 packs at 9.98 sometimes, which is the best deal on those I've ever seen.

Experience has told me that cheap batteries are cheap for a reason. But hey, now you've got 25 reasons! I probably would have given it a shot as well.

As for the environmental issue, there is probably a local hazardous waste disposal program that will take care of them for you for free. While you are on your way there, might as well take in any old paint, cleaning chemicals, oil filters, motor oil, used coolant, oily rags, etc. I go about twice a year with my pile of batteries and other toxic unmentionables.

I get 12pksof Duracel pro cells on eBay. however cheap dollar store batteries make my fuzzes sound better. That's serious! But I use the pro cells in delays and modulation when I'm using pedals outside my pedal train.

In my experience rechargeable batteries do not last as long and you always have to keep some in charging rotation so you aren't caught in a situation of "down time". I ended up giving up on them years ago, especially with my video game controllers. It's easier just to keep a large package of AA's on hand as they last longer and you know you'll have spares when you need them.

Last year I bought a case of Duracell 9 volt batteries off of Ebay for $12 including shipping. I was happy about that.

My experience with generic batteries is that they vary a lot more in terms of voltage.

Back when I was building pedals, I had a 10 pack of Duracell 9V's from Costco, and a four pack of store brand batteries. I decided one day to meter them all. The Duracells were all 9 volts plus or minus 0.5V. The no-names ranged from 8V to 9.7V.

I have no idea if name brand batteries last longer or not.

I noticed that as well. I always use Duracell in any sensitive equipment. If not Duracell, I've also had decent luck with Ray-O-Vac.

I heard there was a new boutique battery maker building batteries by hand in Idaho from recylcled batteries from the 60's & 70's!?!

They are supposed to have some serious Mojo!

You guys are so awesome! I just threw away all of my crappy new batteries and just won a bid on a matched quad of NOS 9 volts from the late 50s. $1000 seems steep, but it is totally worth it for that sag that you just don't get from the new batteries. I just knew it was my pedal batteries that where holding me back.

I've picked up some cheapies, from the dollar store, in a rush before a gig, and I've noticed the variance, as well. I've never done a testing, like you did, but, I was able to tell by the sound.

I have no idea if name brand batteries last longer or not.

In my experience, the cheap ones don't last anywhere near as long. Aside from the negative affect on tone, due to their weakness, they tended to die VERY quickly. Of course, I'm sure that this was at least partly(mostly?) because they were weak to begin with.
