Lp jr GAS.

Played the new Billie Joe Armstrong double cut lpjr the other day, and I love everything about it. I've been digging the look of the more recent juniors (I love the one in Pelham blue) but this one just sounded and felt so amazing, at that's before I plugged it in...

Re: Lp jr GAS.

I'd love it if they did a standard production run of the double cut, tv yellow, les paul Jr. The custom shop is...a bit pricey.

My new Jr kills

Re: Lp jr GAS.

I don't play it as much as my Custom and Classic but everytime I whip out my 2007 DC junior (GOTW 07) I just can't believe how sweet it sounds and how good it plays.

Re: Lp jr GAS.

I had both a Billie Joe Junior in classic white and a 57 VOS TV model.

They are worlds apart. The H-90 they have in the Billie Joe models doesn't cut it for what that guitar represents. If may do you well for pop punk stuff, but as your technique progresses, you'll wish you bought the vintage model.

The slim taper neck on the Billie Joe doesn't help things either. Completely kills the sustain. You want a big baseball bat neck.

Either get a Custom Shop reissue, or the standard junior model, or even a Dean Leslie West. Leave the Billie Joe junior on the shelf, it's a piece of junk.

Re: Lp jr GAS.

+1 for a big neck. It is important. (So, in my opinion, is the single cutaway neck joint.)

For players on a tight budget, I suggest the PRS SE One and a pickup upgrade.

Re: Lp jr GAS.

I wish Gibson made a standard production double cutaway Les Paul Junior Special in alpine white, like this. I bet they'd sell a ton of them if they were priced in the $1200 range.

Re: Lp jr GAS.

There is never a time I don't have LP Jr. GAS. Same with Esquires. Something about single pickup guitars just speaks to me. It's probably due to their ease of use on stage.

Re: Lp jr GAS.

I think I read somewhere in a Rolling Stones article the Les Paul Jr. being something like a "one night stand guitar." A wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am kinda deal. You wouldn't want to marry a chick like that but boy is she awesome the times you fool around with her. My R7 is pretty much the only guitar I ever regretted selling in my collection, but at the same time, I have no reason to buy another one.

Interesting outlook. I have the exact opposite POV. LP Jrs. and Esquires are the lifers, the main battle axes that get the **** done. Everything else I play – the fancy Les Pauls, archtops, pointies, Strats with buttons and **** – is just flirtation and screwing around on the side. If I had to be married to one guitar, it'd be one of the straight-ahead workhorse battle axes that doesn't require any monkeying with: Esquire or LP Jr.

Well if I marry a chick, among other things, I'd like her to cook and clean on occasion. Other than just being a good fu*k and spending my money. And that I get with more than one pickup.

The problem with that is that it assumes single pickup guitars can only do one tone. It just isn't true. Tone knobs are there for a reason, as are pedals, amp settings, your fingers, etc. Single pickup guitars don't lack versatility. They just require a different approach in order to get it.

Re: Lp jr GAS.

I've always been curious about the H90. Never seen one in person, very little in the way of reviews. I always figured if it was decent Gibson would be charging double what they're worth. Of course, that's never stopped them from selling crappy ones. Any love for the H90?

Re: Lp jr GAS.

I'd love it if it didn't have that stupid looking fretboard or color. The entire guitar looks like a giant mustard stain.

Re: Lp jr GAS.

I cant wait for sunday to go to try some lp jr's and some lp's along with prs, and dbz :D

The BJA LP Jr. has the dual coil p90 which probs rocks like a mofo !! I never usually like TV Yellow...but his looks bomb!!

Probably my favorite looking guitar I've ever owned was a custom shop LPDC Special in "tv white". If I was a pro guitar player, my sig. guitar would be an ES-335 in that finish with a wraparound bridge.

You know I used to think just like you. "Shiet I'll just turn that tone knob down and I'll have a completely different tone mofo!"

Yeah, well I don't care how you adjust your amp or turn that knob, there's no way in hell you can get a P90 bridge to sound like a PAF neck pickup. You just get a muddier, quieter bridge pickup.

Hate to burst your bubble but the H90 does NOT rock like a mofo. It sucks majorly. Completely ruins the single coil dynamics of a P90. To top it off, through a really hairy amp, it doesn't even fully hum cancel. It does a half ass job. If you want early Green Day, stick a JB in a strat and be done with it. If you want newish (political) Green Day, get a regular old Junior or PRS SE One.

Also don't forget this guy, or its American brethren:
