Luminos Stain...Pretty Dang Cool!

I like the finish, might have to try that in black on ash sometime, kinda like the limited run N4 I used to have.

Heck yeah! They actually have a line of darker finishes I might experiment with next: LINK

I see all these contemporary matte finishes over raw ash, including colored "sandblasted" finishes, and have to laugh that this one seems so unusual to some people!

Here's the back after its final coat. So, I technically put 5 coats on, but I sanded it back a bit after coats 2 and 4, so it's not a super-thick finish in the end, but pretty much opaque and very smooth:

To give you guys an idea of what the earlier (non-opaque) coats looked like, here are some very close examples using pics from Wudtone's "Surfer Girl" finish:

Similar to first coat with Luminos:

Similar to second or third coat with Luminos:

You can see in the second pic how there's some similarity to the "blonde" finishes I mentioned in terms of grain showing, but still having a good dose of color over the top.

I initially toyed with the idea of darkening the grain and leaving it semi-transparent like the pic above so the grain would pop through. Maybe on the next one...

I think this looks crazy sick.... love for you to update us on how it holds up over time and use.

I really like the grainy look here. I would never consider this finish had it been described to me, but seeing it is pretty wonderful.

This is going to be very cool.

(Please say it’s going to be black hardware.... I know it’ll be chrome but still ;))

I like the color, personally I would want more blue/gray in it. And that first photo would be where I would leave it. I love the wash effect.
Nice job!

Thanks guys! I'm definitely excited. I know the "Meteora" shape isn't for everyone, but I just love it. Plus, this body was custom oversized for me so it won't look too dainty on my 6'4" frame!

Unfortunately, you are correct. Going chrome hardware on this one because the build is centered around an old Wilkinson USA Tele bridge with locking saddles I want to use, but it will have a big ol' swoopy black pickguard on it and black block inlays on the neck to match :)

Way cool!

The Stain v Paint thing is an important distinction though...If you try to actually do that with most "stains" - treat them like paint, you will end up with a mess.

Thank you, gents!

I'm planning to install a DiMarzio True Velvet T bridge and a True Velvet Strat neck pickup with 250K pots and a classic 3-way switch. :)
