Made an odd hybrid today.

A mix between a Superdistortion hexcoil and a 59N slugcoil, using an A5 magnet.
It measure 10.55 and is strangely enough rather good sounding.
Very strong precense, with a great deal of fatness, will get do some clips later.
;)

Ooooooooo...

Rid just made the pickup that shall not be named! :laugh2:

Re: Made an odd hybrid today.

Heresy!!! :)

Seriously though, which coil is dominant, as far as tone goes?

Re: Made an odd hybrid today.

Rid... you aren't using a NECK coil for a pickup to used in the BRIDGE position... are you?

Re: Made an odd hybrid today.

LOl...hehe well I measured the Duncan coil again...it is from the bridge;)
So correction on the 59N, it is a 59B slugcoil.
Anyways my Wolfgang got it self an odd problem now, one of the Grover tuners gave up its life for some weird readon, the housing disintegrated..haha
Gotta get my self some Gotoh's for that one.
Gonna play a 5 string clip then:D
Good to hear that Strat:)
If you want a tad more meat to the sound of it, replace the 47pf with a 330pf
cap in the input, it lets some more guitar in then, slightly fattens up the mids, and for those who wants a slightly flatter sound use a TL084 or a TL074CN quad chip.
Just for those who likes to tinker;)
The input cap small mod just makes it abit more forgiving on amps.
Well back to the pickup...it is very well balanced soundwise, the Duncan ads that old vibe to it, and the SD gives that extra fats in the lower mids.
And it needs a little bath for microphonics...hehe but I got no parafin at home.

WE DONT NEED NO STINKIN COPYRIGHT ISSUES :laugh2:

hey make sure to get pickups in the right colors so that the hybrid is double creme :D

Re: Made an odd hybrid today.

Haha well we do not make pickups, but I do know a guy who makes out of this world pickups and guitars;)
It is Zebra now...looks kinda 80's cool to me:D
I gotta get that clips made soon!
Oh and it uses Airtech too...haha it has a rubberpiece between the magnet and the coils...otherwise the whole thing falls apart..hehe
