Made in China?

I noticed some of the recent Washburn guitars are made in China (for instance the N2). This would probably make them cheaper, because of the low production costs there. But what does this mean for quality? Koreans seem to have gotten better at it the last years, but as far as I know it's a relatively new industry to China.

Can anyone fill me in on the quality of Chinese built guitars? I have no idea what to expect from them.

I've always preferred chinese over korean in my overall experiances. The last 4 Chinese guitars I have had the chance to play all surprised me with their quality. I got an ibanez TCM 50 which is chinese made and the quality is amazing for the price. I suppose it depends on the brand as well though. I also played a Schecter classic which is Korean made and its quality was also very high.

The quality of a guitar is not dependent on where it was built, but rather by WHO built it (beginner /pro, Sweatshop /decent job....)

you do know it's very unlikely the computer you used for this post is free of chinese products
now seriously, alvarez acoustics are made in china and they are very very good.

Each and every component is hand selected by yours truly, all taiwanese origin

Ok, so as much chance getting one's hands on a good Korean guitar as on a Chinese one, I guess.

Products or components made in China all around you, probably. But it's good to strive to avoid supporting certain policies.

All around everyone... but that doesn´t mean I have to buy one on purpose... like you said, some things are good to avoid :beerchug:

I´ve played absolutely great chinese guitars before, there must be a few luthiers over there that know what they´re doing... But I also have to admit a large amount of those I´ve played I´d also consider "substandard", though my opinion of quality and a "seal of approval" are hard things to achieve anyway
