Mag Mic Adjusting Poles - Help

I installed the SA-6 Mag Mic and it sounded great. There is no instructions in how to adjust the poles. A call to technical support does not help that much. The tech just said screw in or out.

Any advice on how to tune the two poles would be much appreciated.
And what is the advantage of having two poles? I like to take advantage of that feature, except i don't know what to listen for.
Thanks Everyone.

welcome to the forum!

adjust the poles to get optimum string to string balance for whatever strings you use. i use dr zebra 13's basically all the time on my guitar so i spent some time going thru and really listening till i got it right where i want it. the setup out of the box was ok but with a little time there was a nice improvment

Do i adjust both poles or just one pole?
Does each pole do something different from the other?

I do notice that when i unscrew one pole or both, the string gets louder.
What should I expect to get?
Thanks for helping.

Re: Mag Mic Adjusting Poles - Help

As the pole pieces get closer to the strings it will sound louder. There are two poles per string because this pickup is also used for 12 string acoustics. If yours is a 6 string guitar, adjust both poles for each string. You can achieve optimum string-to-string balance by adjusting these poles. If you get too close to the string you will notice that the sound may become muddy, lose distinction, or lose some sustain due to the increased magnetic pull on the string. There is an optimum point where you will get the most clarity, loudness, and fullness to your tone. You just have to experiment and adjust it to where it sounds best to you.

These pole adjustments may also affect the balance between the magnetic pickup and the mic, but there is a balance compensation adjustment on the pup as well as an overall volume control..

Re: Mag Mic Adjusting Poles - Help

Oh thanks so much. It really helps to adjust the poles.
On to better tones now. The adjustment allows me to have my melody notes in strings high-e and b stand out well.
I have had dual pickup in K&K, LRBagg,Fishman(ellipse blend),b-band. They all cost around 275.00 but until this Mag mic, I was not really happy with the outcome.
This is best for me.
Oh, this soundhole pu is installed in a Martin OM-42 Maple II.
I will test it in my other Martin Fingerstyle I and will report back in 10 days.
