Anybody ever try a Demon with an Alnico II magnet?

Me too! I was gonna replace the Demon in my SG with a Distortion, but might just spend a few bucks on a ceramic mag instead.JB_From_Hell said:I've been curious about the Demon with a ceramic mag. Have you tried that?

STRATDELUXER97 said:I did this A2 magnet in my Scremon Demon a couple of years back...MRID has a great memory!
Anyway....What it did do was gave the pickup more mids(Of course) shaved some of the highend away(This was a bright pickup) in the strat I had it in....It warmed it up nicely and made the pickup smoother....The pickup was a bit looser in it's feel, but not as tight...
What it didn't do....
I Lost some of the cut it had and the tightness of tone, plus the crunchy ryhthms I had before the switch..I went back to the A5 and have stayed with it ever since...I normally like an A2 magnet in the bridge position, but with this pickup,I liked it stock with the A5...
I also use the Dimarzio Fred and it's A5 and the 2 pickups are so very close both in character and the dc resistances of both pickups....

How does a Demon with the A2 compare to a Pearly Gates?
STRATDELUXER97 said:The PG still has better cut and seems tighter? Probably because of mismatched coils..The PG also has more growl and snarl in the mids..

Sick means good, awesome, sweet...STRATDELUXER97 said:Is "sick" good or bad? LOL
big_black said:I think he means "good". I changed out the hex poles on my a5 Demon (thanks 3 Cent) and I love this pickup now. The shrillness of the top end is rounded off, it still retains ii's low end response, the snarl in the mids are more pronounced. I've got it in an alder body maple fret board Strat.

Sometime we gotta try that SD slug, 59b screw bobin hybrid. I think that hybrid with an a2 is definitely a cool move for the EVH brown tone. I dunno if BtR has tried it but I remember somebody like 2 or 3 years ago swearing that it nails the I and II tones. One of your DS1's + a good delay into plexi sounding tube amp definitely is what I'd try it with that pickup in the bridge of a superstrat. :smoker:
It probably solve that extra roundness issue of an SD with an a2.
Best,
