Maple Board on a Rosewood Neck?

Re: Maple Board on a Rosewood Neck?

Thats absurd. OTOH, its intriquing..I've never heard of such a thing, and i've been into this assembly stuff a long time.! My guess is the Maple wouldn't adhere to the Rosewood without tons of glue cause of the oils..remember, Rosewood needs no finish. So yeah..absurd. Try again.

So how do they adhere rosewood fingerboards to maple necks?

Re: Maple Board on a Rosewood Neck?

A friend has a neck like that. It is nice. A lot warmer sounding than a maple neck rosewood fb.

Re: Maple Board on a Rosewood Neck?

I've played a few Music Man necks made only from rosewood and the feel is absolutely addictive, though I admit that part of that is due to their somewhat unique finishing process. But even comparing their maple necks to their rosewood necks, I enjoy the feel of rosewood noticeably more.

Get the hell out of my head.

I was only curious about maple on rosewood. What I'm really considering is a rosewood neck with an oiled finish a la Music Man/Charvel with an ebony fingerboard and stainless steel frets. That seems to me that it would make the most perfect neck to play ever ever.

ok fellas..I admit I coulda worded it differently, but come the heck on..A rosewood neck with a Maple Board?? Thats just plain absurd, and I don't care who says it. Certainly it doesn't need to be me in particular.Soem things just 'are', ya know what I mean?
I mean, sure go ahead and do it, it wouldnrt be bad per-se, but its still by any definition absurd..its not normal. Why are you coming down on me for this.

Re: Maple Board on a Rosewood Neck?

I agree with jerry on one premise; why? Just to be different? Or is there some tonal greatness there?

That said, I don't think it's any stranger than Gibson sticking maple boards on mahogany necks.

I have played oil finished rosewood finished necks and they have a very different feel under the hands them rosewood. The maple just came to me as an ironic idea but I thought about it and it sounded like a good tone combo.
