Maple Board on a Rosewood Neck?

Re: Maple Board on a Rosewood Neck?

I'd love a maple board on a rosewood neck...love the feel of a raw rosewood neck but the feel of a maple board!

I have plans for a tele with a neck like that, one day I'll build it !

Wait, so the maple would be finished and the rosewood unfinished?

Re: Maple Board on a Rosewood Neck?

I was only curious about maple on rosewood. What I'm really considering is a rosewood neck with an oiled finish a la Music Man/Charvel with an ebony fingerboard and stainless steel frets. That seems to me that it would make the most perfect neck to play ever ever.

It's just weird that this thread got started when it did. Literally about two hours before it did, I was thinking about a project I'd like to start and that neck idea popped into my head.

Mostly I just think it would look cool.

No, they'd both be finished. The rosewood would be finished in oil, and I imagine it'd be easier to do the fretboard the same as well (though I'm no luthier).

Oh that is funny! I almost did a post a couple of days about this very same thing. I was thinking of a Maple FB on Pau Ferro or Wenge or ?

Re: Maple Board on a Rosewood Neck?

I don't think anyone saw my post. Fender is making a Strat that has a rosewood neck and a maple fretboard. It's one of their Fender Selects and the maple board is channel bound onto the rosewood neck.

It looks okay. I'm not a fan of rosewood fretboards with maple necks, because I don't like how the headstock looks with the different woods. Same with this.

I saw it but I didn't reply because I'm looking for people with experience with that neck/ board combo, not just guitars that use it.
