Maple fretboard restore opinions needed

Re: Maple fretboard restore opinions needed

hehe. thx for the advise. Guess I'm stuck with my nose on it.

Ashurbanipal: Thanks, been all over these threads, but this last final step misses each time.

That is as good as it gets with Ibanez necks. You can finish with Watco oil, or Tru-Oil. Watco will wear, and you will have same issue years from now, or use Tru Oil and it will take longer.

I have a thread somewhere that shows a 550 restoration.

I detest fake "relic" guitars, but I do love the authentic look of a maple fretboard that has actually been played hard night after night for many years. It gives character!

Re: Maple fretboard restore opinions needed

u done a darn good job on the frets. Not waht i would consider "perfectly " crowned and polished, but there is lotsa meat and they look good. On Maple, when there is no fret life life, unless you have a strong vested interest in it, or its a vintage neck, tis done.

new guitar with maple neck and Watco. less than a month and it looked like I'd just changed out a transmission without washing my hands before playing. although naptha cleaned it up, I'll never go the Watco way again.

Re: Maple fretboard restore opinions needed

Watco is oil, not a poly sealer. Some people want that dirty maple look.

Perhaps you should wash your hands better. :p
