Re: Marshall amps hype or truly worthy?

I've owned Peaveys, Fenders and others and they all sounded good to my ears, but when I turn up my '78 JMP 2204, it sounds good to my soul. That's the difference for me.

I have no opinion on this...

I just stopped in to say that OP has an awesome username...

Re: Marshall amps hype or truly worthy?

IMHO . . . JTM45, SuperBass, JCM800, VintageModern, and a few others = worthy (if you are going for that kinda tone)

My 2 cents

Re: Marshall amps hype or truly worthy?

Slightly OT : i think Marshall is getting massive competition from other big name brands for that classic Brittish-sound.

Mesa have their own models of the time-tested Marshall'y tones in their Stillettos and, and, and.
Also the Orange Rockerverbs sound too Marshally for their own good.

Then we have te new'ish Blackstar amps . . .

Re: Marshall amps hype or truly worthy?

I own a backstair and have been a fan of their amps from day one. However they really don't sound like Marshalls. Yes they have a british sound but it is unique, sort of like the difference in accents you will hear when speaking to a person from east London or a person from Birmingham.

If you want a Marshall sound that is the best place to go.

The blackstars are great sounding British amps but I can still tell the sound difference between the 2

Re: Marshall amps hype or truly worthy?

Anyone here that uses a Thunderverb for their Marshall'y tones ?

I heard some GNR tunes that got played w. a Les Paul (std) and Thunderverb, and it sounded GODLY !
