Marshall amps :Tight bass, crushing mids, singing highs + HIgh gain =which model?

Re: Marshall amps :Tight bass, crushing mids, singing highs + HIgh gain =which model?

I like that last clip, that guy was good!

Here's another good clip to give you a reference between a JCM 900, a JCM 2000 DSL, a JVM 205H, and a Splawn Competition 50. Watch what he does with the volume knobs on his Les Paul and you'll hear one of the reasons I have come to prefer Splawn amps over Marshalls. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6cDb9IgTeM

Speaking of Splawns, here's a good comparison between their Quick Rod and Nitro models: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI6nByP68cQ
And another that's a little more in depth on the Nitro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI6nByP68cQ

Another amp to consider is the EVH 5150 III. It's in the Marshall vein tonewise, and gets into Soldano territory on channel 3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xS265TNqwFA

Im going to check all of them. right now im with a CRAPPY internet connection, so its a 1 by 1 thing ahahahahah . Thanks for the ****ing input man. Q: )
ah, I have A 5150 iii HEAD the 50watts version. but i only tested it ONE TIME. just to seem if it wasnt damaged in the way to my place. and it works 100% but im still waiting my 2X12 cabinet. loaded with two WGS liberators.

Re: Marshall amps :Tight bass, crushing mids, singing highs + HIgh gain =which model?

i checkehd the randalls, but i didnt like them too much. Q: )

Re: Marshall amps :Tight bass, crushing mids, singing highs + HIgh gain =which model?

I heard some clips of an amp called FRIEDMAN. i loved it, but i think its boutique amps and so ist out of my budget.

Re: Marshall amps :Tight bass, crushing mids, singing highs + HIgh gain =which model?

i just finished listening the first clip, and so far i liked the JCM2000 DSL more than the jcm900 or the JVM. the jvm comes in 2. The splawn on that particular clip, sounds a bittle too acid. or bright for my tastes. too gnarl for me. but its the tightest of them all. and it sounded less organic to me too. im going to the second clip now.

You can forget about the Friedman but for what you want I think the DSL or Splawn are what your looking for. Also you might want to look at Fryette amps as well but a word of warning those things are VERY unforgiving but super tight and articulate definitely not for a sloppy player.

Re: Marshall amps :Tight bass, crushing mids, singing highs + HIgh gain =which model?

i didnt liek the second clip with the nitro and quick rod. but they are nice and tight amps. but maybe lack a bit of the warmness im searching for. going for the third clip now

Ooops, clips 2 and 3 are the same. do you still have the 3rd link?

Re: Marshall amps :Tight bass, crushing mids, singing highs + HIgh gain =which model?

THe bogner is too expensive for me, but i would grab an ÜBERSCHALL Anytime. as well as a Framus CObra. ahahahah

Re: Marshall amps :Tight bass, crushing mids, singing highs + HIgh gain =which model?

Master volume JMP or an early JCM800 with an SD1 in front of it.

+1

Yeah man...pretty much any tube Marshall will sing if you CRANK them. The only thing is your ears will bleed and your lungs will shake loose.

The other guys recommending stuff like Splawn are not kidding either. There's a whole bunch of companies out there who have been dedicating their efforts to achieving "the marshall thing" from back when it was really really good ALL THE TIME.

The Deliverance model is a single channel and no FX loop but is a great option and a bit more forgiving. Next is the SigX model which is the most versatile with three channels a FX loop and a boost option with tons of voicing options. Next would be the Pittbull models which come in 50 and 100 watt heads. The Ultra Lead has KT88s and only two channels and the Classic Lead has EL34s and two channels.

As for their cabs and speakers they have two types the "Fat Bottom" and "Deliverance". The "Fat Bottom" is the most directional sounding and very tight in the bottom. The "Deliverance" fills out a room a bit more but is still very tight. They are built like tanks too.

Also you can't depend on clips too much because it's never the same as standing next to or in front of it plus they may have not set it up too sound like you like it. I would take a Splawn over ANY marshall if were talking tubes.

Ima bout to snag one of these. Actually, I can't make up my mind between this and a Recitifer. I like the Hot Rod Marsahll design of this Stiletto Deuce Stage II. The only knock on this thing ( besides all those relays) is that it doesnt have that massive low end push as a Rectifier, but then neither does a Marshall- what about the Low end Grunt of the others here in this thread that have been recommended?;THIS is waht you want, trust me.

^^^^^^

I really want one of those too. And honestly, the massive low end push is really annoying with my Recto. My bass control is at zero or two at the max. Otherwise the amps low end just blanket's thee whole amps tone, affecting how the mids are heard and how the gain and treble cut through.

if you like the friedman vibe check out the ceriatone Chupacabra & Yeti. Its the sam core circuit but a lot more versatile and suited to metal in the modern mode.

Last time i checked it was $1000 for the fully built amp

That's exactly why I put EL34s in my Recto. They made a difference.

Re: Marshall amps :Tight bass, crushing mids, singing highs + HIgh gain =which model?

EL34 tubes are the reason to use a Marshall :D

some specs
JMP & JCM800 2203/2204 = all tube
JCM900 SL-X = all tube with extra preamp gain tube
JCM900 MK3 = similar to SL-X but instead of extra preamp tube it has a solid state gain section. Some people like the gain sound, the solid state gain has similarities to the Jubilee, but there is not much of a clean sound, as you can't really switch out the Solid State gain like you can on the Jubilee. The Solid State section of these amps has been compared to having a built in Marshall Gov'nor pedal.
JCM900 HiGain Duel Reverb = similar options as DSL but with Solid State in the gain channel.
JCM2000 DSL = all tube

I've done that too. Didn't do much for the low end. Just shaved them down a bit, and added extra mids which only mixed in with the lowend wash that consumes the amps sound already.
The rectos wall of thumping lowend doesnt come from their 6L6s. Its an inherent result of the preamp design. Is in the voicing.
