Both of them are reliable amps. They're both versatile. Neither is better than the other. Both are on the bright side, but DSL a bit smoother and the 900 a little more aggressive/raw. Cleans are arguably better on the 900. Both have great reverb. Some people complain about the reverb, but I think it's really good with a subtle ambiance. No surf tones, but plenty for extra depth and studio work. The 900 is a rather unique amp in the world of modern amps these days. Both are timeless classics. Note that I can only speak of the UK made DSL and JCM900 reissue. I have no idea of how the Chinese made DSL's are, and my experience with JCM900 versions have been too long ago to recall anything specific. The reissue is quite good and reliable though.
