Marshall G12 Vintage Celestion speakers

The Drama Dude
I decided to trade my speakers for some new ones.

Got offered a trade for a pair of Marshall G12 Vintage speakers, supposedly similar to V30s.

I've read that they have higher power handling (80 watts), a different sized magnet and a different voicing, apparently more beefy bottom end. I also read that they were originally supposed to be bass speakers (hence the beefy bottom)

So what's the consensus on these? do they sound good?

I guess I'm mostly concerned about the voicing - my amp is very thick sounding in the lows and mids and has a pretty smooth high end. It sounds excellent with V30s in a regular sized slanted cab. Sounds good in oversized V30 cabs too like the Mesa recto cab, but the oversized cab adds a whole lot of weird woofiness to the overall sound that grates on my nerves.

I guess I'm looking for tight bright speakers with solid low end which isn't too fat sounding.

Re: Marshall G12 Vintage Celestion speakers

its a vintage 30, probably out of an older marshall 1960av or 1960bv 4x12 cab. 16 ohm?

You mean like this?

Great sounding speaker. I've never really A/B'd the tone with a V30 tho so I can't really comment on any differences.

There's no reason it shouldn't give you great tone tho. I play stuff clean to heavy metal with it and it sounds great. It responds well to alot of bass without ever getting muddy which is good cuz my Boogie puts out alot of bass.

aye, 16 ohms, he said it's out of a 1960BV.

The more I research it though, the more confused I get. Celestion says it's the same, and players keep saying that it sounds warmer, and have fatter bottom end.
