I haven't found one. Maybe I've just never found the right unit, but everything sounds and feels like a pedal in front of the amp. The closest thing I've found is the Barber Direct Drive. It's somewhat dynamic and organic sounding, but still doesn't sound like, respond like or "mimic" a true amplifier.

I was kinda looking for the same thing quite a while ago. This was back when the respons to the name Keeley was "Who ?" and to true bypass "What ?".
My split channel JCM 800 was still in one piece and working, but sounded much like a Big Muff. Only way thinner and less tube-like. So I got the Keeley DS which was fine for a while. Getting more knowledge about pedals, I then started modifying it myself into something that works for me the best from the something that works "nice" for everybody.
But it's not a patch on the "Brown Sound in a Box" from General Guitar Gadgets. It's a DIY project and quite an easy one if you've ever done anything else with electronics.

You can buy a PCB for it if you're lazy,

The V-Stack was high on my list of quick home-recordings, but instead I got a V-Amp. More versatile and cheaper. The V-Amp doesn't get the vintage Marshall as well as the V-Stack, but it's just for putting down an idea to MP3 every once in a while.

Bit of an experiment for me as I have always been an amp distortion guy. Have never yet found a pedal I like as much as going straight to amp, but I need more flexibility in my current band. Will report back when I've given it a try. :fingersx:

I don't know about the other pedals mentioned, bu I do know the BSIAB is good enough to not look any further for a classic Marshall sound in a pedal. :smokin:

I am in the same boat, in that I have never liked any distortion pedal.
However, some of the newer (to me, anyway) pedals seem pretty good.
Pricey, though.

Well according to Niels (Rid), the man who designed it, it is built to be used with a Marshally voiced amp to begin with and it will do a great job of mimicing the old amps. My quick review would be this. I don't like the way it sounds through a 1-12 or smaller combo. Sounds incredible through my 71 Univox head through either my 2-12 or 4-12 and through my 59 Bassman clone in a 2X12 tweed cab. Sounds a little funny to me by itself, but in the mix, whether it be recording or in a band is pure Marshall tone. IMHO, it's a great pedal. I just joined a "band" so to speak. We jam on Maiden, Priest, Sabbath etc... and when I'm playing with the plexitone, man I could swear we go from sounding like amatuer to pro. Not because of me, lol, but because of the tone coming from this pedal.

The plexitone is the best I have heard in a pedal.. and I play it through my plexi
Seriously, my one trick pony amp becomes a lot more versatile with the plexitone for live playing - clean, crunch and solo tones with a boost... at low volume too.

I can't wait for mine to arrive! I need that versatility with my current band. I am planning on running it into my JMP MV set clean or into my Jubilee's clean channel. Think it'll work? :fingersx:

The options are nice. The pedal is set up where you can press the gain switch and the boost at the same time.
Hmm.. not a bad couple of amps to use it with :laugh2: I play mine through my 1987x, with the amp running completely clean. The pedal is better for sustain, but for person with serious Marshall tone ears, you will notice that it's not a cranked tube amp.. but, it does a pretty nice job.

The BSIAB is a cool pedal. So Close it made me wonder why EVERYONE didn't use one? I discovered the reason 1st time I tried to gig with it. At gig volume it squealed uncontrollably. I thought maybe it was my build? But after conversing with other BSIAB user's, They reported the same. Great bedroom pedal, But it has some design flaws.

The BSIAB II has taken care of that problem so that it will only take one lad and one soldeering iron to make the almost perfect pedal.

That's what a lot of the inexperienced builders had problems with, not knowing how to fix it if it does oscilate.

The already mentioned OCD, which is great.
Or maybe the Distortion Pro? It's been said that it's a great pedal for making fender amps think they are marshalls. Or something like that...
