For anyone that needs a good pedal for that Marshall Crunch JCM800 or JCM2000, this pedal is it! I just picked one up and it sounds better than most pedals that cost quite a bit more money. Here are some reviews.

The Jackhammer is a great pedal. I highly recomend it. You have to learn how to dial the mids in, but it really is very versitile and is great for boosting a clean signal or for getting various kinds of pedal distortion.

I plan on doing the same thing. My breadboard is currently occupied though but it is a project I want to do. I've only recently starting messing with IC circuits and actually made my own TS-based booster/overdrive. The Guv'nor is a must though.

I've been making my own etched pcb for my pedals...I bought a laser printer etc...and make my own boards and then build the pedals...I'm currently into the Matchbox pedal off www.runoffgroove.com but just haven't gotten around to finishing it yet....It's another pedal that uses BS 170 and the J201 trannies...I Loved the sound samples....

Other pedals I love and I have on my board...

Rodent(Did alot of tweaking on this one)
Phase 90

I've also built the BSIAB 2 and the Professor Tweed,but the Plexitone and my TS808 cover alot of ground,as does some other pedals on my current pedal board...It's fun building the pedals though,especially when they actually work.:laugh2:

I frequently visit Runoffgroove. There's some good stuff there. Lots of their stuff uses JFETs which is cool. I have a few JFET based circuits around myself, including a couple of my own.

I stay away from etching right now. With a 2 year old in the house I don't want those chemicals around. I'm sticking with perfing small circuits for the time being.

Oh Man! Yes you're right about the chemicals! It's pretty cool making my own boards.It's alot of work making the boards,drilling all the holes etc..but it saves me from having to buy the boards..The only thing I've had to buy lately and it's the most expensive part,is the project boxes....I seen guys use electrical outlet boxes also...Looks kinda cheesy,but it works! :laugh2:

Hey buddy.....Ironic thing about the JH in my case? I've never modded mine,nor have I ever opened the pedal up to peak inside of it....It has all the cool stuff I ever wanted from a great pedal...It sounds like a Marshall,has plenty of lows,plenty of gain,plenty of overall adjustment on the tone controls,and it stays tight..I only like the overdriven side of the pedal though and not the darker gainier side...

The only negative about the pedal is the controls are tiny and very hard to adjust quickly on the fly...I pretty much set mine and leave it right where it's set...Bought mine new and even though I Love the Plexitone,I do still use my JH and I won't part with it...

Good deal buddy, This is a great pedal! How does the Shredmaster compare in Tone to the Jackhammer?

I Like the first version Guv'nor as equally as I Like the JH....I've never tryed the shredmaster and it's name doesn't sound classic rock or blues to me..:laugh2:

Love mine! Bought mine when it came out after also reading several reviews about it....I now own a Carl Martin Plexitone and I Like it even more than the JH...Both are great pedals,but the Plexitone is over $200...:9:

I've been thinking maybe a good way to get a variety of tones if a person doesn't want to give up their tube amp is to have a decent amp and buy some different distortion pedals such as what you have there to run through the clean channel. I picked up a Tonebone Classic for some American tones and will probably get a Jackhammer or similar and go from there. It seems if a person can buy used you can try different distortions and not lose much if anything if it doesn't suit you. Your thoughts?

All the pedals are mine...Always cool to try alot of different pedals and then isolate down to the ones you really like on a consistent basis.In other words,keep the pedals that seem to always sound great when you use them.

What's the difference between those different versions of the Tubescreamer?

One is a reissue TS808 and the other is a TS5....The TS5 is modded to be dark,gainier,and with alot of sustain..Reminds me of Gary Moore,EJ,and Santana's earlier tones..

The TS808 has my normal TS9/Tube Screamer mods....More lows,less mid spike,more gain with the drive knob up high,just ballsier overall with upgraded caps and metal film resistors....Both start out as the same basic circuit though.

The TS5 is a real inexpensive "sleeper" pedal.

I only use the overdriven side as it's the side that sounds like a Marshall to me...The other side of the pedal sounds kinda like a Dual Rectifier tone...Darker,alot of gain,and buzzy like angry mosquitoes....It works as a cool singing lead tone,but articulate chords get too lost in the mix on that side..

I don't know if someone's said this before in this thread, but the jackhammer has a third setting, sort of. You can get the overdrive/distortion knob sorta stuck in the middle between the two settings, and you get a sound with a slightly different character.

I own a JH, Shredmaster and Guv'nor.

JH OD mode: Heavy, Crunchy, Open, Smooth distortion sound
JH Dist mode: REALLY HEAVY, compressed, piercing highs

Shredmaster: Heavy, Crunchy, Open, Smooth distortion sound -- the BEST distortion i've ever heard from a stompbox!!!

Guv'nor: Not too heavy, trebly


I'm now giving my 7-year old Shredmaster a little break and uses my JH on OD mode as my main distortion. I'll try to use the Guv'nor as an OD after it. And yes, I don't like the Guv'nor as a distortion that much.

I've only played around with a Jackhammer a few times, so I've not really used it enough to form an opinion of it.

The only other experience I have with it is when I was teching for the auditions of a big local show. 1 of the bands that was auditioning was using a Jackhammer and I've got to say, it sounded absolutely awful to me This could be down the the way the guy had it set, or how he actually plays the guitar. Who knows?

I'm also a big fan of having lots of options, so my pedalboard is mostly made up of Overdrives and Booster pedals that I use with my various amps for lots of different tones.

same here. I would like afew pedals for my effects. Perhaps afew OD, compressor, boosters, delay, a wah and a chorus.

That's weird because I've been using my JH ever since it came out and it's bone stock? It takes a bit of knowing how to dial it in,but I have mine set where I found it's sweet spot and I just leave it there...I only use the overdrive side of the pedal(The more Marshall sounding side)

LOL....I sold a Tremoverb head because it was always way too angry bees in the preamp,too dark,and too loose for my tastes...I'm pretty much a Fender, Old Marshall,Vox guy.
