Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 602, good deal?

Re: Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 602, good deal?

I think that is the case with most high powered amps. Bedroom playing will never sound as good as with the amp cranked but what do you really care about ? having good loud volume amps or good bedroom playing amps... I just set my amps up for rehearsing and gigging and deal with the bedroom levels although FWIW both Mesa amps I have owned have sounded good at bedroom levels and cranked levels

With a set of Winged "C" tubes, and sticking to the first two channels with a good overdrive pedal, it is a great little amp. Has a great clean channel, and sounds good at low volumes. I like a private jack speaker in it, but its not a must.

what do you mean by private jack speaker?

I picked it up, its in perfect condition, looks like it would be on the sales floor. It came with the switch doctor footswitch, as I heard the stock one had issues? According to the seller, the tubes probably have around 2 hours of on time, so its basically brand new. And it came with the box. I'm trying to track down a cab right now, preferably something with celestions. I located a couple marshall 4x12's in 7/10 condition for $300-$350, but they were just too beat up. I'd like to buy a 4x10 or 2x12 for transportation purposes. But it seems very difficult to find

wow looks like a sweet deal. Would you recommend avatar? I'm seriously thinking about ordering the 2x12 loaded with vintage 30's

Re: Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 602, good deal?

congrats on the buy. Did you get the combo or the head ? I ask because I heard the TSL 60 watt 2x12 combo last night cranked and it sounded pretty damn good.

Head, I didn't want to deal with those wolverine speakers as I think they sound like mud in the combo. I bet what you heard was not the original speakers.

I just bought a 2x12 avatar cab (thanks Inder_Cine_Mann), with a Celestion G12H30 and a Celestion Vintage 30. Will post pics when the rig is complete.

Re: Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 602, good deal?

is the tsl 122 the head version of the 602?

No. It's the combo version of the TSL 100. It's the 100 watt version of the amp in the original post. You can find them for under $800 on E-Bay all the time. It's a hell of a ****in' deal, and I highly regret selling mine for $800. That's about 1/3 of what it cost when new.

FWIW, most of the playing I put on mine was at neighbor friendly volume. It performed great in that role. It's one of the reasons I liked that amp so much. It sounded great at all volumes.

Hey all,

I was checking out this Marshall, no footpedal, 8/10 condition for $650. Good deal? Needs new tubes, but sounds good so far.

NO. Thats a good deal on a working TSL halfstack w/ good tubes.

For 650, even guitar center has TSL combos any day of the week. No "needs tubes" disclaimer, 30 day returns. Literally, I saw two last week here.

Nice work, glad you finally got one.
thank you very much sir

that deal was from guitar center, but no footswitch, rough condition, terrible speakers. I passed on it

GC is an *awesome* source of used deals... But only (ONLY!!!) when thry themselves have NO CLUE what they're selling.

...kinda hard for a superpopular, clearly labelled stock amp from a top manufacturer.

Examples of SUPERB deals from GC:
1. "unidentified contents": such as cabs that they have no clue are armed with posh speakers cuz they dont know how to open frontloaders lol (my $159 carvin 412 w/ Rola Celestion g12-65's);
2. "unidentified origin": bought a Japanese highend Ibanez bass from the 80s for 150 cuz they mistook it for a gio lol
3. "unidentifiable prodict": lost country stickers + mods so it looks like nothing else out there + tricks/minor glitches to keep em from finding out it's cool - Matsumoku Washburn bass w/ rare 1st gen active Duncan APB (the one w/ 3 minitoggle boosts) for $150, cuz the strings were dead & the battery was near gone & the tone pot was WIRED IN REVERSE, so they figured it sounded like crud... Actually one of the mightiest four strings I've ever seen, in any price range including $1000's :-) ...kills musicmans, esp stds, american deluxes, ibanez prestiges, everything in sound (though playability cant touch a slimneckd ibby)
4. "weird models": stuff like Ibanezes that say "custom made" instead of prestige or mij, and additionally look confusingly similar to much younger and plainer korean midrange models...again, dead strings and bad batteries powering active circuits reaaaally help get a sweet price (though the "custom made" ones are great guitars/basses with crap pickups begging for a swap anyway, so even if it works fine, chances are they still don't realize it's a $200 purchase from Seymour Duncan away from becoming absolutely sweeeeeet professional gear
5. Maple fretboard shredders: dont ask me why, but seriously awesome floyded HS or singlehum shredders with maple boards regularly pop up at squier bullet prices... Real nice stuff, like Charvels with Schaller Germany hardware and Duncans or DMZs. Maybe they cant identify them? Or know that neckplates like "Fort Worth" are bs, but don't realize its often top knotch stuff like rebranded esp japan???

Re: Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 602, good deal?

The crunch channel on the TSL60 sounds pretty good if you can turn the amp up to about half way. I used a 60 watt head with winged C's, an old jcm800 B cab with Celestion G12m 65's, and a DRZ Airbrake with a band for a couple years. Solid classic rock tone for sure.

sweet setup. I did a lot of research on which speakers to buy that would compliment the head best, and I got steered to the vintage 30 and g12h30. I wish I could have tried them all myself, like the g12m65, but I think it sounds pretty good. the DRZ Airbrake looks really interesting. That would be nice to have. So expensive tho, $330 for the regular black version. Almost the price of the head itself

Re: Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 602, good deal?

I played a TSL combo 2x12 and to be honest it ripped! Way better than the half stack versions I had been playing before hand at rehearsal studios.

Stock speakers and well used tubes too.

But you got an avatar cab with V30s so that will make the head shine for sure. looks like a killer rig!

Unless you reloaded it, the 12m65 is a wholly different speaker from the Rola g12-65 in the jcm800 cabs....nothing but wattage in common. Reissue of the jcm 65 is the heritage 65, not the 12m65
