Marshall Super Lead Plexi

GREEN DAY LP GEEK

New member
This is my dream amp. Main reason is because Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day used his for albums like Dookie, Nimrod, and Insomniac. I have no idea what it feels like or sounds like to my ear personally but I'm quite interested. D99.jpgoes anyone have experience with one or have one? If so what's your review on the amp?

Re: Marshall Super Lead Plexi

If you don't have experience with a loud clean Marshall, it's probably not the Green Day sound you're looking for. Marshalls with more gain is probably what you're wanting to hear. A Super Lead is so loud you can't use one anywhere but a rehearsal room or big venue, unless you're just using it as a fat clean platform for pedals.

If you do buy one, or you're out there and own one, buy this pedal. You will be so happy. :cool2:

You won't need any other OD or attenuator. Just reign in the volume with the pedal, while adding Bogner blue channel goodness.

While it is true that BJ uses(used) a Super Lead understand going in that his amps are not stock...a stock Plexi Marshall won't come anywhere near the gain levels you hear on a Green Day record

Here is a dead stock late 60's (1969) Marshall Super Lead with an ES-335 cranked up pretty hard...clip starts with the amp on 8, the user is using a Hot Plate to bring the volume down so his ears don't bleed!

If you want Green Day levels of gain you'd need to get that amp modded or run boosters/od's in front...

Re: Marshall Super Lead Plexi

I hate the sound of an open d chord that everyone always uses to show off amps like that. claaaaaang!

Re: Marshall Super Lead Plexi

There's a guy in Burbank named Martin golub who modded his. He works at a place called L.A. Sound Design. He charges either 450 or 650 I can't remember but he modded billies Super lead plexi (SE Lead mod) and then his music producer's JCM800 (dookie/crunch mod)

Re: Marshall Super Lead Plexi

Playing through these at full throttle is... humbling.

Not me playing or my amps, it's my co-worker Howard.

I'd like to have a radar gun pointed at that cat when the first power chord is played.

Oh man, I had a cat that ran faster than all get-out at the first chord through my half stack at the time...after a while he just ran when when I picked up my guitar.

great heavy riff tone with the amps, mahogany body, and p90's. it just cuts right thru. drummer looks like one of the guys from Duck Dynasty-its cool-like old Sabboth or Deep Purple. :bigok:
