Been playing for about 20 odd years...
Been paying my bills with audio production for a decade...
Worked with people known & unknown...
And some who just shouldn't ever be known for the good of humanity... lol
In all that time, all those gigs... I can count the number of Lamey's I've encountered on one hand with fingers to spare.
What does that say?

I guess you did not work for Black Sabbath, Angra, early Ratt, Savatage, Paul Gilbert, Mathias Eklundh, Stratovarious, no biggie.

Okay, we'll put aside the fact that Warren DiMartini is an SLO/VHT/plexi guy and the shining beacon of great tone that is Paul Gilbert (ho ho) has now moved to Marshall for a minute.
Even with those guys in there (and a couple of modern metal acts added for good measure) that's a pretty anaemic list. Think for a moment how many pages you could fill with marshall users.
Jmoose is right. If Laneys were really amazing people would find ways to get hold of them and use them more. Partially it's a cost thing in the US, as both Laney and Marshall are both far more expensive than in the UK market. But even in the UK Laneys are a stepping stone brand.

Well, from what I've read the first two albums Warren played an AOR. Come on, for a Reb Beach fan to make fun of Paul Gilbert tone is a bit you know ... funny? Gilbret Had some great tones during his Laney era, and just because Marshall offered him a better deal does not mean that vm is better than vh in PG's mind. You might hate it or disagree with it, but heavy metal guitar was defined and invented by Iommi, and he did it with Laney.

Aside from Sabbath & Paul Gilbert, should I know who any of those people/bands are? Never heard of them... are they Sweedish metal or something?
Not about to name drop here... but I've been around.
Seen lots of other stuff, even Randalls... and I don't encounter many Randalls either.
I'd wager that I've seen more Crate then Lamey...
And for sure, more PV then Lamey...
I dunno.
My only real experience with them as a player was around 15-16 when my Marshall blew up and I got a 50-watt head with this plasticy "tolex" covering as a loner and it sounded BAD.
Real bad.
Even the drummer noticed.
And what's worse... it was a Valvestate that blew up... one of the originals.
The only dealer for them around here anymore also stocks such prestigious pieces like unsold Hondo guitars & Ibanez delays from 1986 and charges $9 for a pack of Ernie Balls... so I can't say I'm going out of my to try one.
Very happy with my Rivera.

Well, I've never considered Reb's tone to be much to write home about, to be honest. And a certain amount of my reb-fanship is tongue in cheek.
Once Warren rented Aspen Pittman's purple Plexi that was it for him (apart from fighting George Lynch over who gets to use it). You'll notice how his tones improve drastically after those first two albums. Have a listen.
Like I said, early Iommi Laney tone is great. Things Got a little too 'electric kazoo' after that. I've checked out his modern Laney tone and it's alright, but not as cool as his early tone. And here's the thing: you can't get those old laneys in custom shop or even Marshall style PCB production line reissue form. Laney should pull their heads out of their arses and reissue the old amps. There has to be a market for them.
It is worth noting that I can't think of a single boutique maker out there that is doing repros of old laneys. interesting, isn't it?
Ironically, the one Paul Gilbery record that I kind of like the sound of is the first Racer X. Which was recorded on an old Marshall (the same one that Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe etc all used).

Well if Laney people would read Laney boards, the entire two of them. They would know that there is a market for at least limted addition re-issue, and they already have tapped into the high-end market with a success of Lionhearts, it is really beyond me why wouldnt they do a re-issue. I want a Supergroup as much as I want Komet Concorde ... How come nobody clones Laneys? well ... I think the night is young, I would not be surprised if somebody strarts making Clipps and Supergroups, after everyone is gonna get tired of superlead clones.

Yeah of course, he never thought it was possibly his techs, pa-lease, Paul Gilbert gotten to be a big clinician with big cult-like following I could understand if he wanted a sig model, and Laney said no, so after all these years he got pissed and left, I can understand.

It certainly says nothing about the quality and sound of Laney amps. They're foreign made amps that aren't stocked on the shelves of Guitar Center. Same can be said for Bogner. I bet you can count those with your little fingers too.
I'm not saying this to be offensive but for the amount of experience you claim to have you seem kinda uninformed. I guess we all have our likes and dislikes but writing something off without really knowing anything about it isn't exactly the smartest way to go about it. In the spirit of this thread we're really comparing Marshalls and Laneys. They are very comprable in many ways.
If Laney had the exposure in the US market that Marshall has I'm sure things would be very different. Who knows, maybe one day Laneys will stock Guitar Center shelves. Musicians Friend already sells them. I can tell you this right now, there is no comparison between a Crate and a Laney. Crate Palomino is arguably their best stuff and play one of those next to a Lionheart and the debate ends right there.

BTW, I've read more than once, that neither Marshall nor Laney are that big of deal in U.K. There it is more "prestigious" to own Voxs, Hiwatts, Oranges.

Marshall is notorious for either not paying at all or very little to endorsers.
You think Marshall is giving him a sig amp?
Paul post regularly on the Racer X boards, and has posted several times that he was just not getting the sound he wanted from the Laney anymore. I don't think that is a slag on Laney or anything, just one mans taste changing.
