I got to pick up the guitar that belonged to my Dad's best friend. It's a really, really old 0-15, looks like it's had its share of dings and war stories. Howard, the previous owner, bought it new. We used to sit around the deer camp, drinking and singing songs (at least until we'd forget the lyrics). That man was like an uncle to me.

This past weekend, about 20 family members were sitting around the beach house ingesting mass quantities of tequila and singing a lot of songs to the wonderous tones that came out of this guitar.

I knew it was old when I got it on Thursday, but I about shat myself when I looked up the serial number on the internet. It's in a case that was made about 1980 as it is very similar to a case I bought for an old Alvarez at that time. yellow fuzzy fur inside, not much protection on the outside, (cardboard?)

Either way, it's a score of a lifetime, it belonged to someone I loved dearly and I'm pretty excited to be its new owner. It also had a Lawrence soundhole pickup that it came with. My mom told me that he had it hooked up so some sort of synthesizer. (I'm guessing that's an amp, but the wife called it a synthesizer.) So, I'm having me mum give her a call. I'm afriad it probably got let go in a big garage sale she had, but I'd have never thought Howard would have played into an amp. Just didn't fit the guy. I guess I should have asked.

I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Great score Scott!... Always cool to have things that have a personal "history" associated with it. Can't wait to see the pics!

I've been playing the crap out of this thing. I think one of the things I like about it is that it is not a big old dreadnought. I can actually sit in my lazyboy and play it. The D-15 I bought is almost too big for that kinda sitting down, screwing around stuff.

I'll be selling the D-15 now. No need to own the new one now that I have the old one.

I'll post it in the Trading Post as soon as I can figure out a price.
