Maxing out my Rectoverb...

Here's a few tips I've picked up over time.

-JJ power tubes
-9th Generation Chinese preamp tubes
-Dime the Mids
-Bass and Treble on zero
-Use the presence control in place of the treble control (I turn it up right to the point where it starts to "sizzle.")
-An SD-1 will tighten things up (I assume a stock SD-1, since that'll cut the bass a bit)

I usually do keep the mids fairly high while backing of the treble to 5 or so... the presence control can make things too harsh if i have the treble up too high so backed off the treble its a nice way to use the presence control for a fatter, smoother sound thats still got cut. The treble control itself seems to take a big jump up right between 6-7... anyone else notice this?

I also use a BD2 blues driver as i said. With the amp set to a medium gain level this thing adds a little more punch, drive, and sizzle and gooses the amp right where i want it to be. It's a little more wide-ranging tonewise and i like that. Sounds great on its own, too!

I heard that you can switch between EL34 and 6L6 with series 2, which is not a big deal but may come handy later.

Cheers?

This is true. Plus I think there's an extra mode switch on one of the channels. I have the v.2 and I'm running EL34's in mine. with the v.1 i think you're stuck with 6L6 types.

I'm a big fan of EL34s for high gain sounds so I'll most likely stick with those although I can't say the amp sounded bad with 6L6's... ;)

on a side note, is there a difference between EL34's and E34L's?

Re: Maxing out my Rectoverb...

The series II do have the tube select switch, and have a 3rd mode on channel 2, "Raw". I've heard the series IIs were made to sound a bit more like the Dual and Triple Recs though, although I haven't played one to make a comparison myself.

I haven't played a v.1 but I'd have to say the Solo 50 is MUCH closer to a Dual or Triple Rec than the Rectoverb is.
