maybe gonna build a "tele gib"...

seen Seymour Duncan playing several times, most recently with Brad Paisley...anyone know what pickups he uses???Also would be interested to know what pickup he uses in the Esquire he sometimes is playing???

Re: maybe gonna build a "tele gib"...

The Tele-Gib is a JB (w/ Alnico 2 magnet) in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck. As for the Esquire, not sure. Could be anything but whatever it is, he most likely wound it himself. ;)

is a JB w/A2 ~ an APII bridge?

Re: maybe gonna build a "tele gib"...

Are there any vids of Seymour playing? I've seen the still pics, but I've never actually heard him.

Re: maybe gonna build a "tele gib"...

Lord have mercy! Thanks Fred. That was sweet. I've just never heard Seymour rock before. Wow!

And with Brad Paisley to boot.

Re: maybe gonna build a "tele gib"...

Is the Esquire he's playing the guitar that we had built for him at UGD 05' Jeremy? I've always wondered how much he plays it, if he does at all. It was a damn nice guitar with top quality parts and I know you put it all together. I still remember how nice Warmoth was to donate the body and neck. I still buy from them because of that.

Re: maybe gonna build a "tele gib"...

Funny, to me, a JB with an A2 isn't significantly different. There is still a ton of output, and that still overtakes the sound. It is *a little* warmer, but not a ton. The magnet swap doesn't seem to have as much of an impact as it does on lower output pickups, like a Jazz.

Re: maybe gonna build a "tele gib"...

My JB/A2 is like a hot Whole Lotta Humbucker bridge. But mine is a vintage Seymour or MJ wind with butyrate bobbins. The vintage JBs IME are more articulate and have some sweet top end, like a Custom with the tone rolled off to 8.5-9. Newer production JBs might not benefit as much from mag swaps.

I have an old JB with 12 screws and an alnico II mag. You can still tell it's a JB, but the mid range spike is shifted down somewhat and the split tone is a little friendlier. It also has a little less bass under high gain to my ears.

hes got a few including jeff becks old yardbirds one. the one we build him had that pup i mentioned above. i dont know how much he plays it honestly which is a shame cause its a terrific guitar, but he has a lot of nice toys. usually i see him play his king of tone tele like the one in the paisley video

Re: maybe gonna build a "tele gib"...

It is interesting to me, because Beck is so identified with a Strat during my lifetime, that I can't imagine a modern Beck playing any guitar without a whammy bar.

In other words, a Holdsworth pickup. ;)

Same for me. Though I have seen videos of him playing the Ox Blood Les Paul, it's the Strat that I am most familiar with. If there's a signature model I'd take home today given the choice, it would be a Beck model in Surf Green.

I was told that it would get me close. :)

Re: maybe gonna build a "tele gib"...

jeff didnt really become a dedicated strat guy till pretty late in his career. teles, the '54 esquire, a few les pauls, the original telegib, gretsch, hell he used a few jacksons back in the 80's.

probably something close to that but you never know if he wound something different to try. ive played that guitar before, very cool. as for the esquire, its probably similar to the bridge pup in this set which is fantastic!

Googled around and found this:

Very confusing...is the concept set the real deal Tele-Gib set or is the JB/Jazz or is the olden days JB/Jazz set???and where do you order 35,000 year old mastodon ivory for the thing???didn't know Jeff Beck was so picky...gonna ditch the Tele-Gib build out of a state of confusion and just put a set of Seth Lovers in it instead...

Re: maybe gonna build a "tele gib"...

thatll do just fine. i have a set of seths in a swamp ash tele with a korina neck. it sounds terrific!
