That's how I came to buying my '07 Explorer Pro.
Went bumming around to the music stores one day, and at the one store was the Explorer Pro. Wan't looking to buy, and really never considered a explorer, as I'm normally a super-strat style player. Picked up that Pro and played it and went 'woe" this is awesome. Felt good, played good, sounded good.
I went back the next day and bought it. No regrets. She's a keeper.
i used her quite a bit in the studio for doubling guitar tracks.

If you find a great explorer, they Kill! I LOVE the look of them anyhow, but they bark like a ferocious hound of hell too. Sounds like you found a good one and thats DEF an amazing price!! Local GC near me has a used one that they want $899 for..
The only thing I dont like about my explorer is that the guitar in the case is so cumbersome and with a bad back...
