Well the mayhems very versatile. So no sound is going to sound better than the other.
I use em in an epiphone les paul and i run it thru a line 6 spider 3. What kind of tube amp will you be using?
Here's the problem. If you have changed a DD magnet, you'll know that's it's NOT nearly as simple as changing a Custom to a Custom 5, for example. You have to loosen the baseplate, pull out the spacers, pull out the magnet, put in new spacers and a new magnet, then tighten everything down. I haven't been able to do it without removing the baseplate altogether.
And that's just the start of it. Without mentioning that, you lose all credibility. If the guy swaps his magnet and realizes that things aren't just like you said, how is he supposed to trust your tone recommendations? I happen to agree with everything you said, by the way. You just didn't sell me on the fact that you've actually done the work instead of just reciting other people's opinions.
I have the Mayhem set in my LP, but with an A5 in the neck and A8 in the bridge. And I'm happy with it for the time being.
