Mesa amp + Marshall cab... match made in heaven!!

I hauled my butt down to GC San Marcos today and picked up a Marshall 1960AX cab (100w loaded with Greenbacks), and when I got home I fired up my MESA/Boogie Rectoverb 50W head and....

 :32: :smokin:

I knew it was gonna sound good but I didn't know that it would end up being the tone that I've been chasing in my head ever since I began playing!

It;s the perfect cross between a Marshall crunch and Fender clean sweetness with a little bit of Cali sunshine around the edges.

Clean tones sparkle and shimmer while being full and fat at the same time, and sometimes I can get this acoustic-like richness and clarity out of my strat's neck pickup.

The dirty tones are... perfect. That's all I can really say. How I've always wanted my rig to sound but it always kinda fell short of that. And the 5 modes between the 2 channels make any tone I want possible. The Greenbacks help that a LOT. They seem to morph personalities along with the tone that the amps putting out.

It's wonderful. This is a amp and cab that I will have for the rest of my life and I'd like to thank y'all for helping my make up my discombobulated mind. Thanks! :beerchug:

P.S. I'll post pics ASAP!

These are all the amps I'd owned before this setup:

- Crate GX15R ~ Hey, gotta start somewhere.

- Marshall VS265R ~ My first real amp. sounded great, best chorus ever, but unreliable as all hell. Gigged with it for 4 years before it fell apart.

- Marshall JCM800 2x12 combo from 1982 ~ My first tube amp. killer overdrive and distortion sounds, but blase cleans. Volume was damn near uncontrollable, the thing was so loud. Only sounded good cranked up. Mig-50 owns it now and loves it.

- Fender Super 60 ~ what a joke! Sounded like a bumblebee with a megaphone on OD, but it had warm jazzy cleans. It lasted 2 gigs before going to pawn shop fodder. But I bought it for $160 and sold it for $200 :fingersx:

- Peavey XXX, modded by VooDoo ~ Good amp for one thing: Stupidly high gain. Not very versatile... Bought it from edgecrusher, used it twice (with a borrowed no-name cab) and then sold it to a local bartender.

- Line 6 Spider II 1x12 ~ I thought it was a POD 2.0 with a speaker attached to it. It's not.

- Fender Blues Jr. ~ Good amp for small gigs, but had to sell it to afford the cab.

....finally I have everything I ever wanted in an amp. Ahhh.... :fest6:

Congrads.

You'll be looking for a new amp in at least 3 months.
The nature of GAS.

Young Angus hates his ENGL now...

Re: Mesa amp + Marshall cab... match made in heaven!!

I`ve been thinking along that line to lately, I have the Solo 50 and have been wanting the 1960BV but the quality comparison to my Recto cab just can`t convince me to follow through.

Re: Mesa amp + Marshall cab... match made in heaven!!

If I ever break down and spend on gear again (I promised myself and my wife I wouldn't) I think that combo would be the only other thing I'd like to add to my gear. Does that head have reverb and if so what type? I have always loved the Mesa Sound.

Nice score BD2!

Yeah I was thinking about that combo too since it is affordable for me 2nd hand. (around €2000 total?) I like the idea of marshall crunch and Mesa brutality and fender cleans. Pleeeeeeease make some soundclips!!!

Re: Mesa amp + Marshall cab... match made in heaven!!

I often heard they're the best Marshall cabs.
I play over a 1960 A and don't like it that much. I like V30 the most. But it's hard to get a good cheap cab with V30's here. I'd like to test a Avatar but not avaible here.
I played over a Mesa Recto standard cab and it just killed.

Re: Mesa amp + Marshall cab... match made in heaven!!

HMmm everyone was telling me to put a single recto head inot ONLY a mesa cab and no oher brtadn would suit it.....BUT come to think of it ALOT of artists use mesa heads into marhsalls cans....Justin Hawkins form the darkness uses a duel recto head through a marshall AX cab hmm interesting!

Re: Mesa amp + Marshall cab... match made in heaven!!

I've yet to try my Recto. w/Greenbacks. Glad to hear it has potential. I'll have to check it out, as I'm still trying to make a cab decision, myself and I already have V30s and Jensens comin' out my ears.

Re: Mesa amp + Marshall cab... match made in heaven!!

This is interesting. I'm getting ready to buy a 412 for my Rectoverb... can you describe the tone a little more? By the way you described it so far that is the tone I've been looking for. Never really thought of Greenbacks...

Here's some pics! Never done this before on the new board, hope it works!

BTW I had the amp custom made with blue vinyl and a gold grille. :bling:
