Many of the newer EL84's are notoriously unreliable. No big deal you had a tube failure or 2 just spring for a good set of tubes and go on. Any of the reptubale tube shops like http://www.dougstubes.com/?utm_sour...ium=email&mc_cid=6d06916c10&mc_eid=c397dd6c08 can sell you a set in the range for your fixed bias Mesa.

+1 to Doug @ Doug's Tubes. He has very good test equipment and has matched sets for Mesa biasing. You may bounce your issue off of him as well....he's a sharp guy. I have received several things on his commending, all of which have been great!
