Mesa LoneStar

Re: Mesa LoneStar

I think it's a solid Boogie amp and works well in many styles. Price is decent too.

For the Marshall lover, it doesn't give the goods on the gain. It's more a Fender guys take on it. It's got the Mark series style mids, as you can tell even in the Video. It's very round in the mids, and that's a Boogie thing you have to enjoy.

Takes pedals well.

Re: Mesa LoneStar

I used to be into Boogies A LOT when I used to gig with a Mesa Boogie MkIII and a Mesa Boogie MkIV (not mine). They're all great amps, once you push the power tubes a little bit. Clean sounds are very good as you have heard. The amp overall is very much like boutique meets Fender: gives you the big american clean sounds, but when you start cranking it up you can get some real hot tones that are great for that tele country picking thing and classic rock. High gain territory the amp doesn't hold up and have much character in IMO, but anything below that it passes in flying colors

Try the Stiletto ACE if you're looking for a Brit sound!

Re: Mesa LoneStar

I'm GASing for a Lonestar Special, Stiletto, and MkIV. I don't know which I want to set my sights on first... lol

Re: Mesa LoneStar

I played one for a few minutes, but I was testing a guitar. I liked what I heard, though.

Re: Mesa LoneStar

I had the Stiletto and I traded it for a two channel Triple Rec. The Lonestar is a great amp, but it is very Fender with a lot more complexity for the harmonics.

I am not saying anything negative about the Fenders (I use Fenders and Mesa), but there are things that the Mesa does that the Fender cannot do... but it also goes the other way too.

The thing that I do love about the Mesa stuff is the fact that I can get the great clean sounds that people do not talk about with Mesa. Usually they just talk about the screaming distortion or grinding tones... and the great thing about a lot of the amps are the clean sounds.

The Stiletto had a great clean setting... if you had the clean channel set for 100 watts... you can get this bright articulate sound... people need to know that... especially with the Lonestars...

Re: Mesa LoneStar

I kinda liked the Lone Star Special more than the regular one.

Anyway, what's the scoop on the Stiletto 1 and II? I heard that they revoiced something on the original, due to user suggestions. However, it's still called the Stiletto, so is there a way to tell the original batch from the newer ones. I don't think they put II on the newer ones, did they?

The Stage II's are supposed to have a Roman numeral II near the input. The Ace only came out as a Stage II.

Re: Mesa LoneStar

I heard the Stage II Stilletos are voiced closer to a Recto. I have no idea though, I haven't played either.
