Tonal effect? Absolutely none.
But It does have One benifit. Braided metal wire is normally used Over another wire that is actually carrying signal, The braid is Shield, and soldered to ground. So It'll cut down on some of the background noise, RF interferance, and a little hum.
Down side is If the guitar is wired baddly (i.e. the shield isn't grounded, or wired with lots of ground loops), it'll actually Amplify those things.
