How do you mic a closed back cab for more bass? Some people mic the back of an open back cab. This is for guitar cab

Large diaphragm condensers with a cardiod pattern. Then take advantage of the proximity effect.

Move the mic further away from the center of the speaker.
If you're using a cardioid, point the mic off axis.
Dual mic'ing with something that reinforces the bottom-end. Either a bassier mic or the same type of mic but in a position where it captures more lows. Check the phase for both. Blend to taste.

cool thanks. i put my second dynamic mic low to floor and edge of radius. i'll look into the other suggestions.

Get the cab close to a room boundary and mic the overhang from behind the cab. This will only get the thump. Be sure to invert the phase.
Alternatively, find a place in the room where the bass builds up (probably a corner or similar boundary). Place mic there.

Are you trying to mic the Randall in your profile pic? I have one like it too!
Personally, I'd avoid mic'ing too close to the floor (or a wall) because reflections can cause phase and comb filtering issues.

They can; but they can also be used to add some interesting colouration to the sound.

OK I will experiment more. I'm trying to mic my Orange 112 cab that's sitting on a laminate floor.
Personally, I'd avoid mic'ing too close to the floor (or a wall) because reflections can cause phase and comb filtering issues.
