Micro amps???

Ive been thinking about getting a small amp to practice/record with. I want like a mini halfstack so to speak. Ive noticed the bugera g5 infinium and the line 6 dt25. Theres a huge price difference. Whats everybodys opinion on these little amps? Any other suggestions?

Re: Micro amps???

I am no help for those two you mentioned, the only mini stack I ever owned was the marshall 15 watter.

I realty liked that you could move the speakers and create some wide stereo kind of sounds.
It was good, nothing spectacular, but good.

Re: Micro amps???

I really like my Hughes and Kettner Tubemiester 18, but for the price it's hard to beat a Jet City JCA22 or one of the JCA20s there's a Vintage version and the standard they only have one channel vs 2 on the JCA22. Peavy also just introduced a 20w mini 6505. I guess it depends on what kind of music you play

Re: Micro amps???

Yeah it really depends on what genres you play, and your budget. There's a mini amp out there for everyone these days. Blackstar do a great job, Egnater has had good small heads for a while, Marshall's DSl15H is ok, and if you've got big bucks, the Mini Recto, Rectoverb 25, and Mark V 25 are really sweet. Take your pick.

Re: Micro amps???

Or the old Peavey VSS 20 mini-stack. One of my favs, due to the stereo amp and built-in stereo chorus. Similar size, speakers and power to the little Marshall stack.

And for the Mesas, don't forget the TA-15. These are killer; the only flaw is the lack of a FX loop. Have to move to the Mini-Recto or the TA-30 for that.

Re: Micro amps???

Vox Lil' Night Train sounds excellent using a 12AU7 preamp tube for power output 2 watts@16 ohms and 1.5 watts@8 ohms.

Re: Micro amps???

Jet City Pico Valve if you can find one. I have one pushing a single 12" cab with a Cannibis Rex in it and love it. If it were my sound I bet it would sound fantastic with a 15 watt Celestion Alnico Blue.
Oh and don't neglect Roland's Cube series. The Micro Cube is a great bedroom amp and includes a headphone jack.

Re: Micro amps???

Sorry i play metal 95% of the time. I had the hughes and kettner 18 and wasnt super impressed with it. Ive hever even heard of jet city lol ill have to look into them. Im lookin to record with this amp as well which was leaning me toward the line 6 its just a little out ofthe budget at the moment and im not really a big fan of modeling amps. I do like the marshal micro stack but im lookin for a tube micro.

Re: Micro amps???

The Jet City will definitely do metal, or checkout the Blackstar HT5 metal, Randall Diavlo series, Diamond Assassin is pretty sweet, or wait until the 6505 mini hits the stores.
also, not suprised you didn't dig the tm18 since you're mostly playing metal

Re: Micro amps???

I like the demos and features fo peavy valve king ii microheas. Peavey just announced two new microheads, a tweed like and the 6505 micro heads, no demos yet.

Re: Micro amps???

If I can defeat the speaker and take the FX Send to feed my Stealth power amp then I may start gasing about Peavey amps.

Re: Micro amps???

I second the PicoValve suggestion--great little amp. Sold my. Vox Lil Night Train (which I also loved) because I kept going back to the Pico

Re: Micro amps???

The Vox Nighttrain is a surprisingly versatile little amp. I hear nothing but good things about the Blackstar HT-5.

Re: Micro amps???

If you want versatility, go for the DT25, hands down. Best amp I've ever owned, and I come from Marshall full valve amps.
